I wanted to test the subscribing system on Derbysgen Its set to "Confirm" Confirm: Subscribers need to confirm the subscription using an email sent to them So sent a subscribe request using the email address on the mailing list home page from two different email addresses I have that have never been subscribed Sent first from a Yahoo address just after 1pm today Not having received a reply or notification or finding a Subscription request in admin tools, I then sent one from a gmail address After a delay of about 15 minutes, the first Yahoo one appeared under Subscription requests, which I accepted I now realise I should have left the request so the email would be confirmed I went back to that web account and a couple of minutes earlier the confirmation request was there But the subscribe request from the gmail account sent at 13:08 today has not been seen again So I sent another subscribe request from the same account at 18:03 Again not been seen since No subscription request for either, no bounce, no nothing Am I missing something ?? -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
As you know, sometimes email takes a while. If you really need me to dig into one, you have to give me not only the list name, but the email address. And time. We are doing a lot behind the scenes right now and have multiple other projects we are working on. I can understand there are lots of things to resolve But if I can't subscribe, presumably neither can any other gmail user ? It seems a fundamental function of a mailing list to be able to subscribe I also understand some emails can get lost hence I sent a second, some mails may be delayed but 8+ hours? Clearly I wouldn't post email addresses here anyway I will see if anything arrives but don't expect it to I thought I would bring it to your attention thats all Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 04-Apr-18 9:14 PM, Anne Gillespie Mitchell wrote: > As you know, sometimes email takes a while. > > If you really need me to dig into one, you have to give me not only the > list name, but the email address. I just did a test to a random list and was able to send a subscribe and confirm from gmail that worked as well as a successful unsubscribe and confirm. Not sure what is happening on your list, but it does work in some cases. Nivard, I tried to subscribe to derbysgen using both my ee.net and att.net addresses. Also using both the -subscribe address using the link, and changing to the -join address as a second attempt. I have not receoved an email asking me to confirm my subscription(s). Go to https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/postorius/lists/copyright.rootsweb.com/settings/subscription_policy Are your settings compatible with members being allowed to subscribe themselves, i.e. Open or Confirm Or do you settings indicate the moderator must approve subscriptions? If the latter, do my subscription attempts appear in your dashboard at https://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/postorius/lists/copyright.rootsweb.com/subscription_requests Pat A.
I'm marking the time here...if you all do not see the confirm emails, or the sub requests...it gives us a place to track it in the logs. Good morning Anne This morning I have two subscription requests held for approval in Derbysgen admin tools One from you and one from another list owner testing with their address, I have not approved either so far I also have two held messages for Derbysgen One from you "subscribe, reason "The message is not from a list member" The second from a list subscriber, reason "n/a" (I don't know what that stands for) but on looking at that post it has attachments If I accept that post with attachments, will they be posted to the list ? (I posted previously that an attachment made it to the Roots list before) Sorry that adds a fresh question but I need to know before I release or reject it and as we can't give a reason I will have to reply separately to the poster to explain Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 05-Apr-18 12:03 AM, Anne Gillespie Mitchell wrote: > I'm marking the time here...if you all do not see the confirm emails, or > the sub requests...it gives us a place to track it in the logs. > > On Wed, Apr 4, 2018 at 3:54 PM, Pat Asher <[email protected]> wrote: > >> At 04:26 PM 4/4/2018, Nivard Ovington wrote: >> >>> I can understand there are lots of things to resolve >>> >>> But if I can't subscribe, presumably neither can any other gmail user ?

Accept the one from Paul. You can reject/discard mine. Pat, can you try the same subscription requests that dissapeared yesterday? We have talked with multiple admins and they think they have solved the problem. Let me know when you do. I appreciate both of your help and patience in working on this. Just went to do that and found two more subscription requests [email protected] [email protected] Which were two of Pats So unless you have done something to allow them through, they appear to have taken a heck of a time to come through Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 05-Apr-18 7:58 PM, Anne Gillespie Mitchell wrote: > Accept the one from Paul. Anne, I don't know if this is part of the same issue or not, but FWIW on several occasions I have found a perfectly legitimate post from a subscriber in my held mail folder (or whatever it is called). Upon confirming the subscriber as well as subject matter, I simply "accepted" the post and it went to the list without further problem. What strikes me odd though is the fact that it appears that doing this only ONCE seems to work in the future though, because whenever the same subscriber posts again it simply passes through to the list as it should have initially. I don't know what that means, perhaps nothing at all, but I thought this might help you sort out the little quirks in the electrons. Good luck to you on that one, Anne. David E. I just did a complete search through my list and I only see 1 email subscribed for me. I don't understand why I'm getting every email from this list and the rwmailinglist 3 times. When a subscribe message comes in from one of my list it only comes in once. Having messages coming in triple is filling my mailbox.
