Not quite. The encoding depends on a number of factors, for example, if the size of the file is over some limit, the sending conglomeration or the receiving unit might encode a message. On my receiving end, if the message is over about 20k, or has graphics, it gets encoded. So far, this has not been much of a problem, though, since decoders are readily available. Author: listowners@rootsweb.com at internet-ext Date: 12/29/97 8:29 PM Someone can correct me if I am wrong on this, but I would have thought the whole issue of mime encoding is academic. It has always been my understanding that irregardless of the capabilities of anyone's hardware, software or provider, that email messages (especially those sent to lists) were to be sent in plain ascii text. Being the "least common denominator", doesn't this allow everyone, even those with dinosaur systems to participate, without constant pressure to upgrade? Wendy Dolphay
