First thing to do is to moderate the user it came from. Removal is a 3-step process: - Go to the archives of your list and find the URI of the offending message. For my list, the archive page for November is http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/CAN-NS-ANTIGONISH/2011-11. Clicking on one of the messages will leave the URI in the address bar of your browser. Copy it. - Go to this page and enter the URI you found in the previous step: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/remove and click the submit button. - From that page, click on the 'Help' button on the upper right. That will take you to the FAQ page. On the FAQ page are two tabs: 'Answers' (the one that's open) and 'Ask a Question'. Click on 'Ask a Question'. 'Ask a Question' is the email form page; clicking on the tab will take you to this page: http://rootsweb.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/rootsweb.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=nWfsccJk&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0yMjEsMjIxJnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ!! Or, shortened: http://preview.tinyurl.com/emailAncestry Fill in the fields as appropriate; your message would be something like "I'm the administrator for can-ns-antigonish list. I just initiated removal of a spam message from my list's archive. Could you please complete the removal?" My experience has been that they get to it in anywhere from a day to three days, although tomorrow is US Thanksgiving holiday, so it may take a bit longer.
