3. Nivard, I had no list postings for a couple of days over the weekend, but minimal list mail over a weekend seems to be the norm for me over most weekends. Day after tomorrow on Thursday is a very major holiday here in the U. S. when many people have a 4 day weekend Thu through Sun though so it would not surprise me to see something similar then. My main list issue is still the fact I continue getting gatewayed board posts that I have to manually delete even though I have twice reported same to Anne now. 3. Wanda, She has already replied to you on this list, saying she will contact you privately, but you can reply to her as well. She is very busy, but you will need to resolve this with her help so need to work it out with her help. 3. Mike; Funny you should say that. I discovered the other day I was no longer the admin of a surname list when I received a message from the new admin via the list. I thought....Hmmmm.....how did that happen? Anyhow I'm not too concerned over it. I'm glad the list is in the hands of another person who's interested in keeping it going. :) Rick B On Fri, Nov 16, 2018 at 8:21 PM Mike Flannigan <mikeflan@att.net> wrote: > > Contact Anne. 2. Anne Halford
3. William Noack , Did you put the exclamation marks in the subject line or message body instead of just the word unsubscribe? Re your suggestion "list needs a functioning link to unsubscribe at the bottom of the email". Rootsweb used to include the following at the bottom of all messages "To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to < list name was inserted> -request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message" All we had to do was clink the link and copy/paste unsubscribe in both locations of the email. Now it looks like this: Unsubscribe https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flists.rootsweb.com%2Fpostorius%2Flists%2Flistowners%40rootsweb.com&data=02%7C01%7C%7C524de7cda7fa414618bf08d6472aa312%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636774645786661570&sdata=m%2FA%2FaIuqNLe69S%2Bm6MkmWyAzN%2FLcwXD2w5IDpGbLnb8%3D&reserved=0 My email from Listowners may return with the original email message above mangled by safelinks.protection.outlook. But if it doesn't, then I suggest Rootsweb change the footer message from a website link to the email form they've adopted for unsubscribing. That would save me a lot of wasted metered internet connection bytes. I cannot say why you can't unsubscribe, however you do not need to create an account or sign in to unsubscribe I have tested using email addresses with no connection to Rootsweb and they all work The correct addresses for subscribing /unsubscribing for each list can be found on its home page In this case listowners-unsubscribe@rootsweb.com Is that the one you are using? 3. Actually, it probably does make sense to be the way it currently is. You need to login to unsubscribe. Creating person-specific links to automatically unsubscribe creates a lot of overhead for very little benefit. It's best to keep the original welcome message. I am surprised to see that they don't specifically state in that e-mail that that e-mail should be saved. Anyway, that original welcome message says: You can unsubscribe by emailing the following with unsusbscribe in the subject and body: listowners-leave@rootsweb.com Creating a new account to unsubscribe probably will not work. 3. Hi Lynne My original was on the subject of duplicates being received of a few posts (but not all) and has also mentioned by other users as happening to them The settings you mention are for the individual to change as required on a list by list basis OR globally I have not altered any settings to do with subscription options, globally or for any single list My settings are Receive own postings YES Avoid Duplicates NO I do not get my own posts (as gmail strips them out not mailman) And the duplicates are only the odd one or two posts, not replies, and not all Before this latest incarnation of Mailman (and its its present default settings) if a user replies to the list using the list address and to the senders address, Mailman will strip out the duplicate, the person being replied to will only receive one copy of that reply (the only way to achieve that would be to send two messages each addresses separately) Unless a user changes their own preferences that will still be the case, and I doubt many if any users have altered that and if they altered their preferences it would have no effect on other list subscribers preferences Plus, as I said earlier, the duplicates were only to the list address (and were posts not replies) I have addressed this reply to you and the list, let me know if you get two copies Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 10/11/2018 13:19, Lynne wrote: > Nivard, perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you've written, but Mailman can and will deliver multiple copies of the same message if you have that setting ticked: > > "Avoid Duplicates > "Yes No > > "When you are listed explicitly in the To: or Cc: headers of a list message, you can opt to not receive another copy from the mailing list.
