For emergency moderation, if I remember correctly you have to put your own address on the accept list then the admin messages will get through...or has that somehow changed? Carol had tried that but somehow messages were still getting through. It will also put Carol herself on moderation which is not helpful for an admin (IMO, of course). <SNIP> -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to LISTOWNERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Sorry I posted to LO instead of Bad. Listowner instead of BoardAdmin. AB is our abreviation for the main comtinous spammer. He use to post to hundreds of boards on friday hoping he could get some suckers before ancestry/rootsweb helpdesk staff removed the sales pitch. He has now changed and uses several ID during the week to hit scattered boards -----Original Message----- From: Craig Kilby persisto1@gmail.com What staff from what place and why? I've had Liam Foster subscribe to four of my lists since about six weeks ago. So far hasn't attempted to post to any of them. I put all new subscribers onto moderation as soon as I've approved their membership, as Deloris has described. It seems the best way to catch any who are not genuine, before anything reaches the list. It does not, of course, prevent anything happening off-list, but we can't control that anyway. Anyone could harvest addresses off the archives if they wanted to, they don't have to be subscribed to access that information. I have no reason to suspect this is happening, it is purely speculation. I know exactly which address you're talking about, because I've seen the same thing, and have done the same thing -- put the address on moderation. I haven't received as many subscriptions as often, but then I admin far fewer lists than you do. -- Mary On 10/27/2012 11:41 AM, Paul L LeBlanc wrote: > > For about the last two MONTHS every day I have received a subscription from lixx.foxxxx81@gmail.com x replaces letter! > > After about the first dozen I started putting on MOD. > They still have not posted once. > I emailed the addr with a question and they did not bother to reply. > > I will continue to put on MOD and you might think about doing the same. > > Paul
For about the last two MONTHS every day I have received a subscription from lixx.foxxxx81@gmail.com x replaces letter! After about the first dozen I started putting on MOD. They still have not posted once. I emailed the addr with a question and they did not bother to reply. I will continue to put on MOD and you might think about doing the same. Paul
I've made it a habit of putting all new subscribers on Moderation until at least the 2nd post from them to make sure they are legit. I sometimes get subscribes to some of the Administrator addresses from oddball email addresses like the one you mention, but I delete them and move on. I wonder what changes we might expect to see with this development. Maybe none on the surface as far as volunteers are concerned? I guess time will answer that question.
