    3. Has anyone gone to Earthlink webmail and checked the spam folder? I am, near as I can tell, receiving all of my email from Rootsweb. Lainee -----Original Message----- From: Maggie Hein Sent: Saturday, May 25, 2013 2:46 PM To: JYoung6180@aol.com Cc: LISTOWNERS@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LO] not receiving messages from my own list Joan, That's exactly what I did - for an HOUR yesterday - and Earthlink treated me like a crazy person. I see in the archives of this group that there were several other list owners with Earthlink addresses who have reported the same problem. Is there anyone from RootsWeb tech support that monitors this list that could tell us what we are supposed to say to EarthLink to convince them they are blocking us? Strangely, I also did not receive a copy of my post to the LISTOWNERS here at my e-mail address, but I did receive your message. I am on other Rootsweb lists and normally receive a copy of anything I post. Is this list set up differently? 3. Have you checked the junk mail folder on the webmail at Earthlink.net? Lainee -----Original Message----- From: Margaret L. Sopp Sent: Saturday, May 25, 2013 2:09 PM To: listowners-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [LO] Not Receiving Mail - follow up Deloris Williams, thank you for responding. I am reading the Listowners messages in the Archives. And, yes, I checked the List Archives to the Lists and there are posts there. In fact, I realized I was not receiving Rootsweb mail because I posted a message yesterday and another today and neither came to my mailbox as they normally do. So that's when I looked in the Archives for that List. As I am the administrator of that particular List, I was able to check the subscribers and I am still subscribed. Something must be up between Earthlink and Rootsweb. I recall years ago there was an Earthlink and Ancestry thing. It continued for a long time (months and months) and I spoke to both Earthlink and Ancestry reps multiple times and of course each said it was the other's fault. Ugh! Margaret

    3. I added my g-mail account as a list administrator, sent a message to the administrator, and pulled the IP address off of the message that arrived. I sent it in and got this back. Could it really be this simple a solution? Hello may5902@earthlink.net, We have removed the block on mail originating from 66.43.28.157, please allow 2-24 hours for normal email traffic to resume. Please understand that IPs previously removed from the EarthLink Correct Connect database may be re-added in the future should the server be discovered to again be open for relay. 2. Charani- While you are correct about gmail...this is actually a MailMan "feature" in that listowners-l is set to reply to sender. So in order to reply to the sender and the list you must hit REPLY ALL. MailMan spots duplicate copies and removes the list copy so that it isn't sent in these cases no matter whether gmail is involved or not. Joan In a message dated 5/25/2013 4:09:19 P.M. For some weird and wonderful reason, Gmail doesn't think you need a copy of your own mail. However, you can alter the settings so you DO get a copy back. This seems to work primarily with email clients such at Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc. If you aren't using an email client, which you don't appear to be, add your address in the cc or bcc field. -- Charani (UK) OPC for Walton, Ashcott, Shapwick, Greinton and Clutton, SOM http://wsom-opc.org.uk ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to LISTOWNERS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I think it would be helpful if everyone who is getting bounces of their Eathlink subscribers would complain to both EarthLink and RootsWeb. I just spent another hour on the phone with EarthLink. Basically, they won't do anything unless I send them an example of a bounce message and/or send them the IP address of where the block messages are coming from. Since I'm not getting messages at all, I have no bounce messages to send them, and I have no idea what RootsWeb's IP address is. The address that I was told to send this information to is: blockedbyearthlink.abuse.earthlink.net I looked up that e-mail address and here is the help page associated with it. 2. You received a PRIVATE copy of my message. Because of your known issue receiving LIST mail I sent a private copy to you plus the one to the list (which MailMan wouldn't have sent you anyway because it knew you got a private copy). 2. I believe they are blocking also...in that Earthlink subscribers started bouncing off my lists today. So they have probably been blocking for about a week or so. You would have to talk to Earthlink support and explain that RootsWeb list mail is not spam and ask what you can do to get the block removed. Joan In a message dated 5/25/2013 3:37:23 P.M. I spent a considerable amount of time with Earthlink tech support trying to convince them of this and they don't believe me. I tried to register for this Administrator mailing list using my Earthlink e-mail and never received a registration confirmation. So, I set up a g-mail address, input that in as my administrator address, registered for this list using the new g-mail address, sent myself a test administrator message, and unsurprisingly, all of that works just fine unisg a g-mail address. So, how do I convince EarthLink that they are blocking @rootsweb.com messages? They were asking me what ip address the messages would have come from and I haven't a clue what the answer to that would be. 3. I would suggest checking your Mailing List Archives to see if there are messages on the lists you're subscribed to. If there are messages there that you haven't received, then you're having a problem. By the way, if you're receiving this and other messages from the Listowners Mailing List, you're not likely having a problem. Even so, I probably would have let them re0subscribe. As for the bounce threshold being rest, I probably would have considered how often posts to the list were being made and maybe lowered it rather than raising it. In this way, bounce offs would occur in a more regular way rather than so many at once. 2. I should clarify that the bounces are reset to zero only after 7 days of NO bounces...I think my response below didn't make that clear. But in your case with a threshold of 10 you would still have to reach TEN days of bounces with no gap of 7 days of no posts/bounces for any of the addresses to bounce off again. Joan In a message dated 5/16/2013 10:28:56 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, JYoung6180@aol.com writes: First off...if an address bounces OFF your list (or multiple addresses bounce off at one time) the admin should never just resubscribe them without some sort of verification that 1) the person wants to resub --- in other words they should do it, and 2) verification that the address actually works and is valid. The fact that you have set your bounce quota to 10 and "sent another email to the list" and waited a "few days" proves NOTHING...it will take 10 days of bounces for each of the addresses for them to bounce off again...if the list doesn't get any traffic and the bounces clear and return to zero after 7 days...they will never bounce off...but that doesn't mean they are no bouncing or that they are getting the list mail! You won't see any bounces (they just get discarded) until the threshold is met and you see the final bounce that unsubs the addresses. Not a solution in my opinion.
