    3. July 2nd I sent the following to my sleepy low volume Fender list. I have received several positive responses (none negative) Replies are going directly to our personal emails AND also to the list, because one post did include a snip from another member's response, BUT none of the replies are in the archives. ---------------------------------- < <> > --------------------------------- Subject: the Fender list is alive! Hi Fender descendants and researchers from all the various branches and spellings. I'm curious who's still out there after this long stretch when Rootsweb was off-line to make it more secure and modernize. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you interested in staying in the group or no longer interested in genealogy? Stay ______ Unsubscribe _____ (use "list instructions" link toward bottom of post) Would you be interested in using this resource to learn about using DNA to find extended family, or to share, trace, or discuss DNA matches? Yes _____ ? ______ No ______ Do you have a "brick wall"? Yes ______ No _______ Have you found your ancestors before they immigrated to North America? Yes ______ No ______ Other _______________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I recently took a DNA test and have found descendants who share my Fender/Venter GGG-grandparents! But it often takes research to "connect the dots" and figure out why our DNA matches. Reminder - Send "plain text" emails - no attachments, but you can insert links to images, or share photos off list. If you run into problems contact me. 3. Here is mine. I think our South-Africa list is far form being operational: >> All, RootsWeb is attempting to restore the lists, using new software. Also, many of the lists have new administrators (like me). Please bear with us (the tech people and the list administrators) as we figure this out. I need to get the settings correct, and fix the informational messages. That may fix the very long urls (urldefense ...) that are being generated. One new "feature" is that they will not display posters' e-mails. That is not my rule. So, you should make a plan to contact people like me to find other's e-mails for off-list messages. I am kmeintjes at gmail dot com. Send me a message about any issue , question, or concern. There has been an explosion of online resources. What I would particularly like to see posted to the list is "how to" guides on accessing such other sources. For example, how about a review of eggsa.org, or of the 1820 Settler's site? << Keith On Sun, Sep 2, 2018 at 9:31 AM Paul L LeBlanc via LISTOWNERS < listowners@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Has anyone developed a "we are back up" post to get the lists going again? > > Would you please share. > > Had any success? > > _______________________________________________ > Email preferences: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__bit.ly_rootswebpref&d=DwIBaQ&c=kKqjBR9KKWaWpMhASkPbOg&r=QqKR_1oid-wv3O1GFus6ukhkWVArI2oTvHi2_JUm6dE&m=RwimPhuBZ_xLw5Z-wTI2mwf4ADxjV2dgVb_IUKoblJc&s=a8qHzL3RT6_QFc0SktmT7GBeAI6khu07b-v4g0m_b-s&e= > Unsubscribe > https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/listowners@rootsweb.com > Privacy Statement: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__ancstry.me_2JWBOdY&d=DwIBaQ&c=kKqjBR9KKWaWpMhASkPbOg&r=QqKR_1oid-wv3O1GFus6ukhkWVArI2oTvHi2_JUm6dE&m=RwimPhuBZ_xLw5Z-wTI2mwf4ADxjV2dgVb_IUKoblJc&s=OVIioB_Twh00rYy6d1xLOwlLf5NKihauiC88jvqYVLE&e= Terms and Conditions: > https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__ancstry.me_2HDBym9&d=DwIBaQ&c=kKqjBR9KKWaWpMhASkPbOg&r=QqKR_1oid-wv3O1GFus6ukhkWVArI2oTvHi2_JUm6dE&m=RwimPhuBZ_xLw5Z-wTI2mwf4ADxjV2dgVb_IUKoblJc&s=9Ysgy6aH-lMk3S2voAWQtG-_oKFFlQjLNPzy2LVrykA&e= > Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog > RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb > community > -- +1.248.891.6434 Michigan, USA (Eastern Time)

Yes Joan As I said in my original post ;-) It was just meant to be a light hearted post and not to be taken too seriously At one time peoples computer clocks would go back to zero when the battery died or they simply hadn't reset their clock accurately, these days we don't often see the problem as its mostly automatically updated Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 03/09/2018 14:42, Joan Young via LISTOWNERS wrote: > Seems to me the goofy dates we used to see in the archives were due to incorrect dates on the posters' computers. 3. Nivard, I share your pain. I rented a Mercedes 260 in South Africa in March. The thing had GPS, but it did not know the time. I never figured it out. Something like depress the accelerator when the car in on but not running, then hit the radio volume button three times within seven seconds. 3. You really don't need one. When you manually unsub somebody from your list tools you'll see it confirmed on that page once you click Unsubscribe. 3. Today, I unsubbed a lister. When I did this in the "olden" days, I received an unsub confirmation from Rootsweb. I've yet to receive one today in my inbox or spam catcher, so I'm wondering if I will now only receive unsub confirmations when listers unsub themselves, i.e., I won't receive a confirmation when I perform the unsub. Thoughts? Thanks, Mary Richardson

    1. RE:Subscriber's intent - John Rigdon's question
    2. John, This should be obvious, but why not contact the subscriber directly to answer your question? I haven't seen that address on any of my three lists, though. Sorry, I deleted your original message a bit too soon. Dwayne Crandall

    1. Re: Daniel Warren & Co., Ltd
    2. Tracey, I didn't have BIG problem, but did ask if anyone knew anything about the company. Apparently, a few of my subscribers had dealings, some pleased, some displeased. Of the responses I got, none were of a testimonial nature. Some had indicated the information they received was already available, but a few did say they got leads or something of value. I have someone on GenTips asking about it and I'd like to be able to accurately inform her about the service. Thanks, Tracey

    1. Re: AL Newspaper Lookups
    2. I have a few Missouri newspaper items (mainly CLARY, COWAN, CRAIN, CRANDALL) at my web site. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/1949 The State Historical Society of Missouri has the state well covered and their charges are reasonable for lookups. http://www.system.missouri.edu:80/shs/ For AL, I know there is a site which lists current newspapers which have genealogy columns, but not any that cover the entire state for older items. Thanks.

    1. Re: MIME messages
    2. Refer to my web site for "decoding" MIME. Many mailers, ISPs, etc., convert messages for a myriad of reasons. One caveat, there are also programs that encode using "UUCODE" which have at least 3 versions I'm aware of; however, the directions at the bottom of my web page should work for most. Many go and download the software to open, but it doesn't work. I have one man who has lost all the messages for August, because of this. I have another who contacted AOL, who told him they were doing everything right, so it must be someone elses problem. Yes both of them are willing to pay postage for me to run all those messages off and send to them. But that could get to be a full time business. Suggestions!!!!!!
