    3. I took a look at the thread. What I would do is 1) put the entire list on moderation until the dust settles, 2) declare an end to the topic, 3) put in removal requests for all the offending messages in the thread, myself, and tell the list that everyone who gets the resulting email to confirm the removal request, and 4) put the individual offenders on permanent moderation. 1. Re: [LO] Conflict on List
    2. The person who posted an individual message can delete it from the list archives...only the poster can delete his own posts. He can't delete an entire thread. You, as admin, could make a judgment call and put a halt to the discussion and you also could initiate the removal of posts from your list if you deem it appropriate. To delete post(s) from the archives first find the post(s) in the archives and copy the URL(s) where you find the post(s). Paste each URL to be removed into the removal form here and click to initiate the removal: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/remove This will trigger a confirmation email to the POSTER who can then respond and delete the post. If the poster does not cooperate and complete the removal process the RootsWeb HelpDesk can do that for you but you should explain the reason for the removal when you request it of the HelpDesk. Note that the above removal form URL should only be given out on a need to know basis. Joan In a message dated 1/31/2012 1:25:13 A.M. 2. David- In this case, MyAccount is a better option than PaswordCentral in view of the fact there are LINKS on that page that take you directly to the admin pages of lists you admin (as well as telling you if you still DO admin the list) and this would bypass any possible errors involving passwords. 3. Joan, I'll second what Drew said. When I was getting my e-mail through Syracuse University, my actual address was mdtaffet@mailbox.syr.edu, but I used mdtaffet@syr.edu on some lists. I was not able to send mail from the @syr.edu address, but I could certainly receive mail sent to that address. The @syr.edu was nothing more than a convenient alias. 3. Internally to Ohio University, it's likely to be the same address (or all email to ohio.edu addresses are automatically forwarded to oak.cats.ohiou.edu). So when you get the bounce message, you're seeing the ultimate form of the email address instead of the one that the list is sending to. In any event, the bounce can be safely ignored, since it's just a delivery timeout. 3. Hi all, I'm scheduled for major back surgery on January 23rd, and expect to be out of commission for a while, though hopefully not too long. I manage a number of surname lists, one location list, and one topics list, most of which are very quiet. I've just asked for an assistant list admin on my most active list, so that one may be covered, but most of the rest of them may need sitters at least for a while. I'll send the set of lists as soon as I can, which will probably be sometime tomorrow. -- Mary
