So a more universal answer may be that it's worth sending the email (after moderating and/or unsubbing the address), but be aware that the subscriber MAY or MAY NOT see what you send. --pig
Hi Pig... Our Famous List Administrator! Universal unsub is best if you want to wait.. I don't..... But if the email account of a member has been hi-jacked they no longer have control of the email account. And that was what I was speaking about in this last message - not the spam messages to the mailing list... *SIGH* There is only one "e" in "Ancestry". Yes, I know it is not the end of the world. No, I am not offended -- well, maybe a tiny bit annoyed -- but if I do a search in the archives for "ancestry.com" guess what message thread I WON'T find? Darrell

I actually prefer moderating the person rather than unsubbing them. Staff will globally unsub them if they feel it is necessary after you report the spam to them and initiate archives removal. If I moderate the person I can stop them from posting but if I unsub them and they have no clue why they got unsubbed (and even if you let them know they may not read the email), they will probably just resubscribe and then the spam can start up all over again...they won't be moderated unless or until you manually check off the box again...allowing for a time lapse when new spam can hit the list from the same person. TonyM It was a Holiday in the states so staff would not finish removal from archive. If you are list mom, you can put the member on mod or removal Paul -----Original Message----- From: TonyM <Horler@one-name.org> Hi Listowners, Is there a problem with Rootsweb? Why haven't you unsubbed the address, or placed it on moderation? Changing the digest size will not fix the Subject problem. If I can't take someone off Digest mode, then I'll have to use moderation to get them to comply. But now it dawns on me that I can also reduce the message size to snag those people who are not on Digest mode, but backquote multiple messages, including multiple copies of the list's footer. Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions, Diana From: JYoung6180@aol.com [mailto:JYoung6180@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2012 10:38 AM To: DianaGM@dgmweb.net; Listowners-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LO] Digest mode It isn't up to us as admins to force our subscribers to subscribe in one mode or the other. RootsWeb offers digest mode and so must we. If your list gets very little traffic then any quoted digest shouldn't be very long either. So not much of a problem. You can manage lengthy digest quotes by setting a very low message size and then when a longer quoted digest gets stuck in pending requests you can remind the person why this happened. Joan
Hi Joan and Nan, . Thank you for your quick response. . The problem seems to be with my service provider's proxy server. I have logged a fault with them. . Thank you, Johan.
Hi All, . The Admin Interface seems to have been changed. The "Let me in" button seems to have been replaced by a text box with the words "Let me in..." in it, and no button to log in. . Has anyone else encountered the same problem? . Greetings, Johan Dorey-Venter.
Diana, My solution seems to be working relatively well for the Digest Mode posters. Go to the Digest Options for your list and put the following in the Digest Header: ** NOTE ** When replying to a message in the digest please do two things: 1. Change the 'Subject' to that of the message you are replying to. 2. Delete all the messages above and below the one you are concerned with. Thank You - List Administrator This does not help the back and forth banter of some threads where the single message 'replies' get longer and longer. When this occurs, I have a longer email that I post to the list containing similar instructions such as above. So far I have only had to post it once this year. I'd be happy to send it to anyone interested in having it. Brad Miter Today's Topics: 1. I am sooooooooo tired of reminding people to trim their backquotes to the *one* message they are responding to and to change the Subject of their reply to the Subject of the message. This isn't happening every once in awhile, it's happening every few days. I've even moderated one person, refusing to let his messages through unless he fixes them - and he continues to forget. My list just isn't that busy. There's no need to subscribe in Digest mode, and even if my list were busy, there are better ways to deal with it than Digest mode. I truly wish Digest mode did not exist, and I would like to not allow people to subscribe in that mode. Diana
If it is a proxy server issue (I've seen that with AOL also) you can FORCE a refresh of the page and that should load a correct updated page for you. Not just a REFRESH...a FORCED refresh. Sounds like a browser issue but I wouldn't know for sure. Whatever the cause you can get around it by logging into MyAccount and clicking the link to go to your admin pages. OR...create bookmarks for yourself with your password included like I did. For example: http://lists9.rootsweb.ancestry.com/mailman/admin/listname/?adminpw=password change listname to YOUR list's name and change password to YOUR password and use whchever server your list is housed on.
