    2. It would be impossible to have TWO copies of the same address subbed to a list---if you tried to add an address already subbed you will get an error message telling you the subscription failed and the address is already subbed. 3. Craig, I AM the list admin. I'm not at fault, and Joan has helped me a lot. So yes, somebody here has helped me. Thank you, Joan. I'm happy to take this offline...which I will. 3. Mary, I'm surprised that it would be working for you at all in that way; it's not supposed to. Ever since the mailing list software was changed from the previous software system (was it called Smartlist?? ...I've forgotten) to the MailMan software, a change which happened YEARS ago, an email address can only be subscribed in EITHER regular mail mode OR digest mode. Not both. That's why most admins have subscribed the -admin account in digest mode, so that they can receive it without having to have a 2nd address subscribed just to get it. If you've never done that, and you've continued to receive both modes, that would seem to be counter to what we've been told by Rootsweb as to how the lists work. With the old system (Smartlist??) there were two separate subscriber lists -- one for regular list mode and one for digest mode, so the same address could be subscribed in both modes. With the MailMan software, there is a single subscriber list that serves both regular mail mode and digest mode. If the "digest" button is checked, the address receives the digest. If the "digest" button isn't checked, the address receives regular mail mode. Because regular mail mode vs. digest is essentially the result of a toggle switch, you really shouldn't be able to receive both at the same address. -- Another Mary On 1/28/2013 7:58 PM, Mary Richardson wrote: > Really? 1. Re: [LO] List owners unsubbed from digest mode
    2. It isn't a question of RootsWeb "cracking down" on anything. Years ago...quite a few years ago in fact, RootsWeb switched over from the archaic SmartList system to MailMan to manage list mail. It isn't possible based upon the way MailMan functions to have a single address subbed in more than one mode. SmartList treated L and D modes as if they were separate lists. MailMan treats L and D mode as separate modes of the SAME list---and to prevent duplicate subscriptions the same address CANNOT subscribe to in both modes. So you haven't been subbed to digests for quite a few years if you had been using a single address to subscribe. I just checked a few of my other lists and the "admin" addresses are subbed (for me) as they always were...so somehow the one list I had checked before must have become unsubbed at some point...so all is well. That is how many admins get around the problems of not being able to subscribe a single address in both modes. Subscribe LISTNAME-ADMIN@rootsweb.com in D mode and since this forwards to your private email address you will receive both L and D mail at your preferred single address. 1. Re: [LO] Mailing List passwords were changed on me
    2. Cathy- I believe this is how it is supposed to work. You are not having YOUR password sent to you but rather having the password RESET (and the temp password sent to the admin address or record). So you can safely change it back to the one you had been using if you want to. Joan In a message dated 1/22/2013 7:15:19 P.M. If it came to your '-request' address with 'subscribe' in the subject and/or body, then I would think it unlikely to be a spammer or similar.
