Firefox updates itself automatically. I haven't updated firefox since I downloaded it about 5 years ago. That wasn't the problem. You have to be logged in using your admin account to see the Admin link. I was logged in under another account and wasn't logged into IE at all. I was signed in. However it was with a login that I don't use for admin on the boards. When I logged in to my board admin account the link showed up. Same with IE, except I wasn't logged in at all. After logging in, the link appeared. So I guess you have to be logged in. The top menu on the Rootsweb home page also shows up now. I'll keep using chrome. I found a good ad blocker that works with it. I don't have an ad blocker or IE or Firefox. The first ad that came up on IE when I opened it to the URL Tim gave was an ad for Chrome. Gene
Gene, If you mean on this site - http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ - I don't have the menu header (where it says mailing lists, boards, web pages) in Chrome. :) Perhaps your Chrome is using a cached version? Hmm maybe the version of Chrome I was using which is where it didn't show up! I use Chrome 99% of the time, IE .9 % of the time and anything else would fall into the .1% or less range. Anyway, I opened a ticket with Help. I posted to Boards-Admins, it did not reject but whether it made it or not I am not sure. Ah just found a page that said membership pending, So I suppose I'll just wait to see what Help has to say. Another interesting development. As well as not showing the Admin Center link on the boards, IE does not show the menu header on the rootsweb home page. It does show up on Chrome. Pane? I should have said the bottom page after you open one of the boards. But use the Chrome browser because the links apparently doesn't show up in IE or Firefox. Now this is wierd. I clicked on the link and went to the Coweta board in Chrome. I was already logged in and the Admin Center Link was there. I opened MS IE and copied and pasted the URL and found no Admin Center Link. I opened a board I manage and it doesn't have an Admin Center link either. Long story, short, the Admin Center lnk doesn't show up in Internet Explorer or Firefox but does in Chrome. Hi Nivard, I, too, have had contacts years later about items I had posted. I agree that it might continue to be handy to have the email addy for me right there but I would almost prefer that we don't so as to make the questioner ask for more info on the list rather than off the list. That has perhaps a greater benefit for all the subbers? I have advised my subscribers of the problem we have, in that we have no facility to reject with a reason for that rejection Further advising them to be careful of what they post (ie no full digest etc), re subject line and copied back content and to use the correct email address as I may not be able to give a reason for rejection And should a post not appear on the list, to check thoroughly the address they used is subscribed and content, then re-post if needed They need to take responsibility if we don't have the tools to do the job For all the spam it doesn't matter, discard and done But will judge each held post on its merits and reject or discard accordingly Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 17-Apr-18 10:45 PM, Lynne wrote: > Please put that on the list of things to change. One of my subscribers mailed me earlier to ask the correct address to post to the list So rather than just hand over the address I prefer to try and teach them how to find it themselves (and all the other lists) I would normally have sent them to the lists home page, at the same time letting them know how to find that page ie as it used to be, Mailing lists from the top bar menu from Rootsweb home page, search for a list in the lower search box and follow your nose to the list in question That home page had the addresses to use for contacting admin, posting to the list and the correct address for subscribing & unsubscribing So I got up the find a mailing list search page (as the menu is *still* missing from the Rootsweb home page) But on drilling down to the home page for that list I find the very thing I am trying to point out to her is *missing* now On each lists home page is the admin address and the subscribing & unsubscribing address But no "to post to this list" address -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
I am very much in favour of the lists archives But they need to be in a usable state, which at present they are not One major thing that I haven't seen mention is the absence of email addresses in the archives Over the years I have been contacted and have contacted a great many people via their email address, as a great many researchers join a list then leave after a period, so if all we can do is reply to an archived list post, it is highly unlikely to be seen by them I assume the default to no email addresses showing is to cover Ancestrys back side re data protection? but as all subscribers to Rootsweb lists knew their posts were archived with their email address it seems rather pointless hiding them now Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 18-Apr-18 12:12 AM, Anne Gillespie Mitchell wrote: > We disabled the download after listening to the people on this list. > People can access the information on the site. > > The archives are very important to this product staying around -- they > bring people in via google search.
