    1. [LIST-UPDATE] Migration Schedule is NEXT week?

    3. I found the link to the migration schedule from lists.rootsweb.com tonight, and have been having some discussions in IRC with other list managers - one or two who have done beta testing - and some who who have not. Is that list for ALL lists? How about the 20 or so which have gateways to Usenet newsgroups? Is my ALT-GENEALOGY moving on Monday? I sure hope not! There are some special considerations for those newsgroup gateway lists and I think the list managers should be consulted about possible problems. For one thing - in no circumstance should it be obvious to the readers on the newsgroups side of the gateways (except maybe in the headers) that messages are coming to them from a mailing list. My understanding is that ALL messages on ALL lists will be required to have a tagline giving UNSUBSCRIBE instructions. That will cause all kinds of unpleasant noise from newsgroup readers, none of which will be kind to rootsweb.com. Even if those footers are inserted on the mailing list side only, replies to those list-side messages will get to the newsgroup with the footers included as part of the replied-to message. I'm also concerned about reject lists and about whether there will be -I lists. Mostly I am concerned that I know nothing at all about the impending moves and that list managers have not been given the update schedules in email (these are email lists, after all) and not given that information BEFORE their subscribers see it. 3. One more thing - what about prepends (the [LISTNAME] added to the subject line)? Will we be able NOT to have those or to amend them to something shorter - or will they automatically be included in full? For the newsgroup geteways I do not want them at all, as that is one more thing which makes it obvious to newsgroups readers that the message orginated on a mailing list. For a list with a long name like some locations/geographical areas lists I would hope it could be up to the list manager. Margaret
