    3. I received one notice and that was to this address but NOTHING to my AOL address which is my address used for all the lists I administer. There is nothing in the SPAM folder so what happened to that notice from Rootsweb? WHY are the admins being left in the dark? This really does not bode well if we can't be kept apprised of changes forthcoming with a bit more advance notice. What a mess. I have a feeling that Rootsweb Help Desk is going to be flooded with complaints and very soon. -- Kathie Harrison Family Trees Grow with Love Ancestral Whispers http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/

I use two addresses for List subscriptions. Both addresses automatically come into my mailbox. Strangely, one of the list migration notifications came through perfectly. The other ended up in my Spam folder. (And my Spam filter works automatically exactly the same for both addresses). So what was up with that? I wonder how many notification messages are going to end up in subscribers' spam folders. Nothing we can control, I guess, but interesting. Margaret S.

Margaret I can only tell you that on the PAPHILAD list when it was migrated at the start of the testing that I had previously used the abbreviated prepend of [paphl] on the list and and after the migration the default propend had become: [PAPHILAD]. I was able to go in and abbreviate it but not change it to lower case--which I think was fixed yesterday so it will accept changes of case. I can't speak for a list that had no prepend at the time of the changeover--whether one would be added by default or not--but I sort of assume so and assume it will be up to you to remove it if you don't want it. Here is another case where a simple script should be able to tell Mailman that no prepend was previously used so don't add one...but I'm not sure such a check is in place. Joan

    3. Before sending a broadcast message to all list USERS, why didn't you sent a message to all list MANAGERS? We have no idea what the beta testers learned which would help us out. If you heard that list managers should save some of their old files, or whether some options will no longer be available it might have occurred to you that we managers would like to know that before our subscribers do. Just WHO besides the managers (who know nothing) will be able to help 24/7? And how about people who are on vacation for the next week or so - good luck to them. Margaret

    3. I just noticed that using regular ( reply ) sends a message like ( reply to all ) This IS not going to work/ just wont - it will give double messages and create so much sorting and deleting it will be unbearable for over 30 lists. Why cant this be set like it was before - You mean all the lists are going to send 2 messages to people for every reply ??????? HUH?? Dan M

List Admins should discuss admin-specific topics (like settings and tools) on the ListOwners-L@rootsweb.com list. -==-==-==- any one realize ( other than RW staff ) just how hard and confusing it is to have a list for all different types of list owner thoughts and what list to use for them and even if there is one ? Not to mention for some folks even to remember that this thought and that thought go to what lists ? Maybe RW staff should have a list just for all list owners to ask any question because if a list owner asks a question - is it not list owner topics ?- Sorry, but I mainly resort to reading because I never really know where to post what I think ! Also what about the boards = no change ? I do not always have a lot of time - as a matter of fact I am on my way out and wont be back till about 9 pm. Dan M

    3. Joan, Thanks for the information! Very helpful! My response to this message raises another one. I notice that both "Respond" and "Respond to All" sends the message to only the list, not the person sending the message. Is anything changing in the way this works? This could have a huge impact on message traffic and educating subscribers. 3. Margaret: I gave the message a very quick read in the middle of the night, however, I seem to recall mention of a message that will go to Admins prior to their list being migrated and indicating where to find the tutorial. YES--- go and save all customized messages/files. Save your reject list. As I recall, your accept list will migrate just fine. The prepend that existed traveled with my list as is. I do not think that a prepend would be added if it was not pre-existant, but as that was not my experience, I cannot tell you for certain. Incorporate your taglines into your welcome message as there is only ONE footer, not ten "taglines." in the new software. Listers have commented on how much they like the new look of the digest. Overall, I think all will be pleased.
