    1. [LINDSEY] Caleb Lindsey explanation

    3. I think there is a need for a little history of the lindsey list here. The original list was called Lindsay (with an "a"). Some people thought that there was a difference in clans due to the spelling (Lindsay vs. Lindsey). Personally, I have not seen that difference matters much when you get back a couple of hundred years - they are both phonetically the same. I have another family I've studied spelled - Dilley, Dille, and Dillie - same thing - sometimes in the same document. So, several people started a second list spelled "Lindsey." This list started a couple of years after the first. There is much less info in the archives of this list. For information on the James - Caleb - Carlton, etc. lines - please go to the "Lindsay" archives. There are several years of postings on these families, with census, tax records, deeds, wills. There are also differences in how some of these records have been interpreted. Many of these latest question can be answered if you view that archive - and also start lines of new questions. Everyone interested should then make up their own mind on what may or may not be true and what information that is yet lacking. If you don't know how to find the Lindsay List Archives, please let us know. By the way, my line is from John Lindsey (1775-1839), probable son of James Sr. or James William Lindsey. He was at least a cousin of all of the Lindseys mentioned on the Caleb Lindsey postings. You will find my name attached to many of these posts over the past 4 years.
