Josie, Thanks for posting information about your Zach Lindsey and other Lawrence Co., AL, Lindseys. I may be able to help a bit by identifying some of the Lindseys who appear in your list of Lawrence Co., AL, marriages: 1) C.W. Lindsey who m. Sarah Elizabeth Moseley on 13 May 1872 is Charles Washington Lindsey (7 Jan. 1848-2 Feb. 1914), son of David Dinsmore Lindsey and Sarah Parker Brooks; 2) James D. Lindsey who m. Martha W. Kitchens on 20 June 1872 is James Dennis Lindsey (17 Jan. 1838-3 Aug. 1883), son of Fielding Wesley Lindsey and Clarissa Elizabeth Brooks; 3) Martha J. Lindsey who m. Alexander Dutton on 24 May 1869 was actually Martha Jane Hampton, who had previously been married to John Wesley Lindsey, brother to Charles Washington, above; 4) W.T. Lindsey who m. Martha Livingston on 22 Dec. 1868 was William J. Lindsey (21 Sept. 1839-13 Jan. 1892), brother to James Dennis, above; 5) Fielding W. Lindsey who m. Clarissa E.B. Brooks on 20 June 1835 was Fielding Wesley Lindsey (11 Dec. 1813-21 March 1868), son of Mark Lindsey and Mary Jane Dinsmore; 6) As noted in 3, John Wesley Lindsey (1839-?) m. Martha Jane Hampton on 3 June 1862; he was brother to Charles Washington Lindsey, above; 7) The John Wesley Lindsey (1813-?) who m. Margaret Gibson on 18 March 1836 was a son of Dennis Lindsey and Jane Brooks; 8) Lavisa Lindsey who m. J.N. Wade on 31 Oct. 1872 was Louvisa Jane Lindsey (23 Feb. 1850-?), daughter of Samuel Asbury Lindsey and Mary Jane Hunter (spouse was Jasper Newton Wade); 9) Mark I. Lindsey who m. Mary Jane Harrison on 22 Oct. 1839 was Mark Jefferson Lindsey (1820-1878), another son of Dennis Lindsey and Jane Brooks; 10) Mary J. Lindsey who m. James I. Brooks on 25 Feb. 1840 was Mary Jane Lindsey (10 Nov. 1826-abt. 4 Nov. 1850), sister to Mark Jefferson above; 11) Samuel A. Lindsey who m. Mary Jane Hunter on 12 Oct. 1840 was Samuel Asbury Lindsey (1826-4 Apr. 1865), brother to Mary Jane and Mark Jefferson. These Lindseys all descend from Mark Lindsey, who was b. 1773 in Spartanburg Co., SC, d. 10 Apr. 1847 at Crowdabout, Morgan Co., AL. Abt. 1791 in Spartanburg Co., he m. Mary Jane Dinsmore, daughter of David and Margaret Dinsmore. The couple had three children: Dennis (b. 28 Dec. 1794, Spartanburg Co., SC, d. 28 Aug. 1838, Oakville, Lawrence Co. AL); Fielding Wesley (see above); and David Dinsmore (b. 3 Nov. 1815, Wayne Co., KY, d. 18 March 1873, Lawrence Co., AL). Dennis m. Jane Brooks, dau. of Thomas Brooks and Sarah Whitlock, on 18 Feb. 1813 in Wayne Co., KY. Fielding Wesley m. Clarissa E. Brooks, as above, daughter of James Brooks and Nancy Isbell. David Dinsmore Lindsey m. Sarah Parker Brooks, sister to Jane, on 1 May 1838 in Morgan Co., AL. James and Thomas Brooks were brothers. I am fairly confident that Mark Lindsey (b. 1773) was a son of Dennis Lindsey, a Revolutionary soldier in Spartanburg Co., SC. He seems to have been b. abt. 1755, prob. in Granville Co., NC, d. abt. 12 Jan. 1795 in Spartanburg Co. Dennis Lindsey (b. 1755) was a son of William Lindsey (b. abt. 1737), who d. aft. Feb. 1796 in Spartanburg Co., SC. William Lindsey (b. abt. 1737) was son of Dennis Lindsey (b. abt. 1710), who d. Aug. 1762 in Granville Co., SC. I've tracked Dennis back to Spotsylvania Co., VA, where he appears from 1728 up to 1733. I find him once in 1734/5 in Brunswick Co., VA, records. Thereafter from 1742 he's in Edgecombe, later Granville, Co., NC, records up to his death in 1762. This Dennis Lindsey seems closely connected to a William Lindsey who is also in Spotsylvania Co., VA, records from 1722 up to 1743, when he begins to appear in Brunswick Co., VA, records (with one appearance in Edgecombe Co., NC, records). This William d. bef. 26 Sept. 1768 in Brunswick Co., VA. There are a few hints that William may have originated in New Kent Co., VA. Will gladly share on these Lindseys. One note: your Zach Lindsey in Lawrence Co. had a son Jerome. Could he possibly be a descendant of the Lindsay family of Cherrypoint in Northumberland Co., VA, who used Jerome as a given name?
