    3. I guess it's time to have another round on the William-James-Caleb-Carlton Lindseys. For any newcomers it is best to look at this list's archives for many discussions of these families. The information before 1800 provided in the last few e-mails has NEVER been proven. I believe there is a mixture of lines here. The was a large listing of these Lindseys in Rutherford Co. NC 1800 who all seem to be related. We might also include James of Christian Co. KY who was there in 1800. Sorting these people into correct family lines has been impossible up to now. Many have tried. The best guess is some of these people had William Lindsey of Brunswick Co. VA as their ancester. One son moved to Surry Co. NC and the other to probably Orange Co. NC. The James who went to Surry in mid 1780 went to SC before 1800, then to Rutherford NC. The sons went to Warren and Christian Cos. KY - then to AR, AL, and MS. So, please do not be fooled by old charts that were just simply guesses. Look at our archives. It may take several days to do this. Note - there are two lists - one for Lindsey and other LINDSAY. Most info in in LINDSAY. Bob Jordan jorbob@webtv.net

In his WILL, he listed 14 children and 4 Negro slaves on January 17, 1859. In 1860 Census, he shows that he had Real Estate valued at $2,500.; and personal property of $8000. 3. I brought the "book" to work with me this morning so I could look up some of the Lindsey's as e-mail questions come through. In the beginning of the book it references a book "The Dangerous Life" by Ben B. Lindsey and Rube Borough, published by Horace Liveright, Inc., New York, copyright 1931, by Horace Liveright, Inc. This book supposedly provides information that in 1750 three LINDSAY brothers arrived in America from Scotland. The brothers first settled in Virginia. From there, one moved to Pennsylvania, one to Tennessee (Isaac), and one to the Carolinas (Nimrod). During the revolutionary war, the referenced book states one brother was loyal to the British, and the other two were loyal to the colonists. To differentiate the loyalties, the patriot brothers changed the spelling of their name to LINDSEY from LINDSAY. It is implied that the Pennsylvania brother remained Lindsay. Nothing is known of his family branch through the referenced book. Family tradition says Nimrod was the father of James Lindsey (b. 1768) and John Lindsey (b. 1769) in a Scottish settlement in North Carolina. James married Ruth Howard and there were six children; Samuel, John, William (b. 21 Nov 1807 in NC, d. 29 Nov 1871 in Port Sullivan, Milam Co., TX), Clement (b. 23 Feb 1814 in NC, d. 9 Aug 1876, Hearne, TX), James and Eliza. The "Lindsey Book" traces the descendants of both James and John. Hopefully, this will clarify which family branch the "book" deals with. Keith
