    2. <<and what is the addy for that list ? I didnt know that that family line would have my GM in it... Dotty>> Dotty, There is no guarantee your grandmother is in the Lindsay list archives or anywhere else on the internet...it takes searching to find her....but the majority of researchers of the Lindsay/Lindsey/Linzey/Linzy family subscribe to the Lindsay list so the benefit of their wisdom and research will be in the archives. And as Phil and Ron were saying the spelling really has no meaning. I myself have seen my own family change the spelling for every census. Try posting on the Lindsay list and see if anyone has run across her. And contrary to what you and Sandra might think there is quite a very nice group of people on the Lindsay list and that includes both Phil and Ron! Diana To subscribe to the Lindsay Rootsweb list use the following address: http://lists.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/findlist.pl It's at the same location as where you subscribed to the Lindsey Rootsweb list. 3. Dotty, I really do appreciate that. I needed encouragement too. I'm on oxygen around the clock and can't get to the Genealogical Society Center very often, at least not while I'm in Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab. So I communicate via computer. I really think you might want to contact Mr. Auvie A. Bailey. He had found my name in the Surname Directory of the South Carolina Genealogical Society and wrote to me via snail mail. I couldn't connect to his line and, as stated above, couldn't get to the research building anytime soon. But I had started to receive the postings to this list and knew there seemed to be some possible good connections. I hoped that perhaps by posting the data he sent, someone on this List might be able to contact him and help him and that might help all of us. I sent a letter to him stating this. I believe that in our efforts to discover our roots, we've all incorporated some erroneous data at times. I try to correct my errors as soon as I can prove there is an error. This isn't the only List with someone who believes that only "new" information should be posted. Unfortunately, many of the rest of us haven't acquired the "old" info yet, nor are we all familiar with the various sites available. So we just keep trying. I know of one List that has been inactive for months because of one nasty old man who believes himself to be the only "factual" repository for information on a particular surname. And those who know him are afraid of having an "hurtful" letter posted to them if they speak out. I simply wanted to help this person, Mr. Bailey, who was reaching out for help. So if you will email me directly at my given address, I will give you his mailing address. Perhaps, Dotty, he holds a key to your mystery. I truly do hope so for the sake of both of you. As we get older, too often memeories are all we have let to hold on to. I promise I will not forget you and if I can find anything that I suspect might help you, Dotty, I will contact you immediately. God bless you and again, thank you, sandiet Dotty wrote: > > if it werent for people like Sandra,I woul not know what to do or where > to go,I am still facing my brick wall...I have Absolutely nothing to go > on in my search for my Birth Family and its Origins...I have 4 > clues...the Lindsey Name...there were 9 Children...and They were Born in > Arkansas...and my GM's nicname was "Minky" > Dotty > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 > Source for Family History Online. 3. Hi Dotty, I have a lot of Wilcox's in my FTM, but none married to Lindseys. My Lindsey's are from Arkansas also. My grandfather was Isaac Cornelius Lindsey m. to Lula Jane Dover. His father (as yet really unproven) was Wesley Asberry Lindsey. I do still have a couple of first cousins in Norman, AR. They have not been able to be of much help to me. Frustrating, isn't it? 3. Well, I guess I've done the wrong thing again. I haven't been "on the LINDSEY-L" list for very long and everything that's been published on it recently has been a great deal of help to me and, I'm sure to some others, but I will stay off and stop trying to help someone else. Seems there's aways someone who gets bored with what is, to them, "old information". 3. Hello All, Still looking for information on "my" Margaret Lindsey (b.29 Aug 1828; d. 8 Aug 1862) who married Allen H. Bryan, son of Jacob Bryan. Margaret was the daughter of William and Mary Lindsey. She and Allen lived in the forks of Shoal and Factory Creeks and died less than four weeks apart of typhoid, leaving seven children. At one time the family bible was in the possession of Louise Walker Gillespie Phillips, now deceased. If anyone knows this family or has information on the siblings or parents of Margaret Lindsey, I'd appreciate all leads. 3. For Sandiet Sometimes luck in meeting the right person at the right time does play a role. One contact can open the next door to where to look next. That has happened many times for me. Some people who do not have access to computers hold on to old, unproven theories for many years. I had to discard a complete line of Lindseys I was working on one time because of false information, but I gladly did that in order to go the right direction. Thank goodness for the many people of the LINDSAY-L list. I've been with them for more than two years. Hope you will really research that list archives and get up to date with what has been done. The LINDSEY-L archives is very small - an offshoot of the other, so most info has been posted to the A unstead of E. I've found the spelling difference does not mean anything. 3. Amen! Huge amounts of very fine work have gone into tracing these Lindsays and Lindseys (and Linseys, Linsys, Linzys, etc.). In the final result, we can only know things because they have been proven.... not just because someone else once said it, or wrote it. The Lindsay-L list has been active for at for six years, with thousands of entries since 1995. The Lindsey-L list has been all but extinct until the last month or two. It would seem a great waste of time to "re-invent the wheel" with a new list that is about the same old family, regardless of spelling. This I say as an EY Lindsey whose relatives are recorded with five different spellings between 1830 and 1870 in Missouri, while the count of spelling varieties in Missouri alone, in those 40 years, has now reached 39. Seems a shame to take six years of work on Linday-L and repeat it for six new years on Lindsey-L. Hope this is some food for thought. Best Regards, Phil Lindsey Bob Jordan wrote: > I guess it's time to have another round on the > William-James-Caleb-Carlton Lindseys. 3. Thank you for the update, Bob. I posted the informtion sent by someone who seems very nice but apparently doesn't have access to a computer and so that any possible relatives would be able to contact perhaps a long lost cousin. I've been greatly blessed. Someone did spot some postings of mine and forwarded them to a very special 1st cousin that I had "lost" many years ago. He just contacted me last week and it's glorious to hear from him. So it's my hope that someone will be able to help Auvie Bailey. Thank you again for this information. sandiet Bob Jordan wrote: > > I guess it's time to have another round on the > William-James-Caleb-Carlton Lindseys.
