The following information on the Lindsey book (one of probably several, but the one I belong to) was previously posted. I am re-posting for the benefit of those who missed it, and have expressed and interest in it. I don't know the availability, but suggest contacting the publisher. Keith Pearson >I also have another book on the Lindseys - with focus on the family of >James Lindsey and wife Ruth Howard . The book was compiled and copyright >1963 by Vaughn Hamberlin Rowley. It was printed by the Chief Printing Co., >231 S. College, Tyler, TX. It has Library of Congress Catalog Card Number >63-20054. James Lindsey was b. 1768 in Scottish settlement in NC. Wife >Ruth was b. 1770. They had six children: (1) Samuel; (2) John; (3) >William, b 21 Nov 1807 NC & mar. Eliza Lewis & d. 29 Nov. 1871, Port >Sullivan, Milam Co., TX; (4) Clement, b. 23 Feb 1814 NC & mar. Margaret >Cunningham, and d. 9 Aug 1876 at Hearne, TX.; (5) James' and (6) Eliza. I brought the "book" to work with me this morning so I could look up some of the Lindsey's as e-mail questions come through. In the beginning of the book it references a book "The Dangerous Life" by Ben B. Lindsey and Rube Borough, published by Horace Liveright, Inc., New York, copyright 1931, by Horace Liveright, Inc. This book supposedly provides information that in 1750 three LINDSAY brothers arrived in America from Scotland. The brothers first settled in Virginia. From there, one moved to Pennsylvania, one to Tennessee (Isaac), and one to the Carolinas (Nimrod). During the revolutionary war, the referenced book states one brother was loyal to the British, and the other two were loyal to the colonists. To differentiate the loyalties, the patriot brothers changed the spelling of their name to LINDSEY from LINDSAY. It is implied that the Pennsylvania brother remained Lindsay. Nothing is known of his family branch through the referenced book. Family tradition says Nimrod was the father of James Lindsey (b. 1768) and John Lindsey (b. 1769) in a Scottish settlement in North Carolina. James married Ruth Howard and there were six children; Samuel, John, William (b. 21 Nov 1807 in NC, d. 29 Nov 1871 in Port Sullivan, Milam Co., TX), Clement (b. 23 Feb 1814 in NC, d. 9 Aug 1876, Hearne, TX), James and Eliza. The "Lindsey Book" traces the descendants of both James and John. Hopefully, this will clarify which family branch the "book" deals with.
