    3. Hello Cousin: first let me ask you some questions? 1. did you know there is no WRONG way to spell Lindsey. there are 28 excepted ways that are all belonging to the same family. 2. do you belong to the LINDSAY CLAN of AMERICA? 3. do you or would you like to attend the Scottish Highland games? 4. have you ever wished you could meet face to face with others on this and other web sites? 4. would you like to exchange data, stories, records, and family legends with other Lindseys (any spelling). 5. do you have any ancestors who lived or came through North Carolina? 6. do you have any BRICK WALLS in your Lindsey line? 7.would you like to visit western North Carolina? 8.do you like Scottish Games, dancing, bagpipes, wrestling, tug of war. If any of the above interest you then you should make plans now to come to the 2002 LOCH NORMAN HIGHLAND GAMES on April 19,20,21, but get there earlier and meet other Lindseys (all spelling) at the SLEEP INN MOTEL in Lake Norman. I have checked accommodations and location and prices at other Motel's in the area and this is by far the best Motel for the Lindsey get-together that I found so I chose it for our event which will start on monday April 15,2002 thru Sunday April 21,2002 Lake Norman city and the games is about 16 miles North of Charlotte,N.C. which has as good a Archive Library as I have found anywhere. and there are lots of other attractions in the area. For more data in the LOCH NORMAN HIGHLAND GAMES call 704-875-3113 or E-mail -HIGHLANDGAMES@LOCHNORMAN.ORG and for data on the Sleep inn motel rooms contact Meghan Hood at 704-766-2500 or E-mail at TRUEPURPLE@HOTMAIL.COM and be sure to mention the Lindsey Get-Together to receive the discount. If you want more data on the get -together contact gabbie@aeneas.net or call 731-584 -3867 or watch this web site SEE YOU THERE, gabbie

    3. Hi Betty, thanks for sending this. I started looking in my database for a connection on TYLER - my gf Capt. Charles gf out of Fairfax\Loudoun Co. VA line might be connected. This particular Charles in the probate record i don't have pinpointed yet. A tie into Tyler, Yount, Lindsay would be great. I also have HATCHERs in Woodford Co. Ky from Bedford & Chesterfield (Powhattan) Cos. VA. Querying my Lindsay's in KY: I have Archibald Lindsay b 1826 a son of Vascal Dorsey Lindsay & Johanna A. Johnson-however, Vascal Dorsey died in Jackson Co. IA by 1854. I don't know when they went there, but they Vascal Dorsey was in Indiana when Betsey, dau was born in 1831. Also have David Lindsay of Fairfax Co. VA & Mason Co. KY m. to Lucy PARKER with 3 kids: Richard Alexander m. 1st Jane E. Parker; m. 2nd Melinda Alice Ball. William T. b abt 1825 d. 1879. Lizzie b. abt 1827 m. Francis Marion Craig. josie At 07:06 AM 8/24/2001 -0500, Betty L. 3. Thank You Josie, It was from reading your messages to list that gave me the clue to John Lindsey being the father of Jacob in New Madrid County, MO....and thus to the library searches. Thank you for the information of the past, and this new one about the book in the Florence, AL library. As you know, each clue helps so much. I also found the following in the book of Probate Records of New Madrid County, MO. Which might be of benefit to someone on the list. 3. Hi, on my other computer which i can't get to, there is a researcher in Lauderdale, AL that has written a book - about the Lindsay/eys there. I had a smattering of info hoping they were connected to my Zachariah Lindsay of Lawrence & Limestone Cos. AL. he said not: i first found the reference to the MO Lindsay's in Valley Leaves pub. if you call the library there in Florence, Alabama, they probably have this book. josie 05:56 PM 8/23/2001 -0500, you wrote: >In searching the (Interesting!) archived mail in each list, I have found >enough clues to ask questions for which I hope someone has answers. 3. In searching the (Interesting!) archived mail in each list, I have found enough clues to ask questions for which I hope someone has answers. I believe the John Lindsey/Lindsay who left a will in Lauderdale County, AL to be my ancestor, IF he was the father of Jacob Lindsey who died in New Madrid County. Here is what I have, beginning with Jacob: 1. JACOB LINDSEY b unknown, m unknown, d abt 1817 New Madrid County MO. 2. His daughter: ANNA LINDSEY b 1804, m abt.1820 ROBERT POGUE b abt 1795. Anna died 1852, Cooper County MO, Robert died 1853, Cooper County, MO. Both are buried at the Hail Ridge Cemetery in Cooper County. Their children: a. WILLIAM ANDERSON POGUE b MO 1821 [my ggrandfather], married 1843, Cooper County, MO to Sarah Bolton b. MARY M. POGUE b MO abt 1824, married 1844, Cooper County, MO to Eli Hardcastle c. JACOB LINDSEY POGUE b 1825 d. ROBERT C. POGUE e. SARAH M. POGUE f. JAMES L. POGUE g. BARSHABA J. POGUE h. THOMAS T. POGUE i. JOHN C. POGUE j. RHODA ANN POGUE (f) James L. Pogue was appointed guardian of his younger siblings after their father died. The following is from searches done at the MO State Historical Library: ****** "Marriage Records 1819-1850 And Will Records 1820-1870 of Cooper County, MO Published 1959 Elizabeth Prather Ellsberry >From Book A2 page 339 Will of James L. Pogue "To my Brothers: Robert C., William A, Jacob L, John and Thomas T.. To my sisters: Sarah M, Barshaba J, and Rhoda A. Pogue Silas J. W. McGuire, Exe. Written 13 April 1859 Recorded 8 September 1863 Witnesses: Lewis Edson and Silas M. Ross" And: PROBATE RECORDS NEW MADRED COUNTY, MO 1810-1910 p24 10-24-1817 $2000 bond, Robert Boyd Gdn. Of Anne Lindsey, Barshaba Lindsey, Mahala Lindsey, and Mary Lindsey, minor heirs of Jacob Lindsey, Dec'd John Osborn & Stephen Ross Securities" ****** The names shared in these records seem positive proof for these to be the same families. Now to the questions. Is Jacob of New Madrid County really the son of John of Lauderdale County? If so, who is this JOHN LINDSEY/LINDSAY? Where did he come from? I have seen the unusual spelling of the name Barshaba given in the list of children for Col. John (Silverfist) Lindsay, but have no clues tying him to the John in Alabama. Does anyone have similar names in their family lines? For what it is worth: In the census of 1880, William A. Pogue said both his father and mother were born in Tennessee. I don't know if that is correct or not. As with the spellings of the names Lindsey-Lindsay, and Pogue-Poage-Poague, it is another question... Thanks for any assistance, advise and guidance, Betty L. My question of the moment to any of you researching this timeframe of 1780's in Richmond County, North Carolina is regarding the possibility of Mary McDONALD's family which, obviously, has Scottish ancestry.........perhaps being one of the many Scottish families that married into Cherokee families. Just recently, it has come to my attention that there were many Cherokee and Scottish families especially out of North Carolina in the 1700's. When I became aware of this situation as it applies to other family lines of mine, I began to wonder whether or not this might be the source of Native American Indian lineage that my grandfather, Louis Hector SLAUGHTER, born: 14 Feb 1869 near Liddieville, Franklin County, MS, spoke to my mother about before his death in 1938. He mentioned, specifically, to her ancestry of his that was Native American Indian and French. So far, through researching the SLAUGHTER lineage there has not surfaced any Indian nor French heritage at this point. His mother was Claranda "Clara" WILLIAMS in Catahoula and Franklin Parish, LA and I am still researching her family with her father, William WILLIAMS, born in abt. 1790 in Maryland, and the mother of my great grandfather, Hudson H. SLAUGHTER, born: 13 Mar 1844 in Greene Co./Pickens Co., AL, who was Susan CROUCH, born: abt. 1815 in NC, (daughter of Samuel CROUCH, born: abt. 1785 in NC,) who married John M. SLAUGHTER, born: abt. 1795 in NC, who was the son of Mary McDONALD and Owen SLAUGHTER, Jr., (son of Owen SLAUGHTER, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth BOLTON.) Up until recently, I hadn't specifically thought that Mary McDONALD might be the source for the Native American ancestry as I tended to think of the French and the Indian ancestry being in the same family branch but, upon hearing of the several family groups of Scottish - Cherokee families that I possibly connect to through other lines it brightened my hopes that, perhaps, I might find the information that I am searching for within Scottish - Cherokee McDONALD families in the late 1700's in Richmond County, North Carolina. While Mary McDONALD is my maternal 3rd great grandmother the timeframe would have 'normally' allowed her to be my 4th or 5th great grandmother but her son and great grandson both married women that were approximately 20 years younger than themselves as 2nd and 3rd marriages. Mary McDONALD/McDANIEL married Owen SLAUGHTER, Jr. in 1782 in Richmond Co., NC. A brief family tree with their children is listed below. OWEN SLAUGHTER, JR., (Rev.) .......b. There is reason to believe that James is my g-g-g grandfather who moved west (from Ohio) after his first wife died shortly after giving birth to my g-g-grandmother (Florence SPARGUR LINDSEY) in 1876. My great grandmother remembers my g-g grandmother (Nellie LINDSEY KNISLEY) travelling to Oregon many years ago by train, but apparently she didn't tell anyone why she was going. 1. [LINDSEY] 1780's Richmond Co., NC/possible Scottish/Cherokee???
    2. Hello, Re: Cherokee - Scottish ancestry in 1780's Richmond Co., NC I am looking for information regarding my 3rd great grandmother, Mary McDONALD, who, as with other McDONALD's, could also be known as McDANIEL. Abt. 1760, ...........Anson County, North Carolina; .......d. February 03, 1830, ...........Richmond Co., North Carolina .......mother: Mary Elizabeth BOLTON .......father: Owen SLAUGHTER, Sr. md: wife # 1: MARY MCDONALD/MCDANIEL ............md: in abt. 1782 in Richmond Co., NC ............mother: ?? ............father: ? McDONALD/McDANIEL md: wife # 2: PRISCILLA THOMAS ............md: in abt. 1819 ............father: Daniel THOMAS ............mother: Sarah COVINGTON Children of OWEN SLAUGHTER and MARY MCDONALD/MCDANIEL are: i. WILLIAM4 SLAUGHTER, ...........b. Abt. 1785, ...............Richmond County, North Carolina. ii. SLAUGHTER, ...........b. 1796; ...........d. 1846/47 in MS, ...........m. Susan CROUCH, ....................b: abt. 1815 in NC ....................prob. as his 2nd wife, ...........(who was his 1st wife?) Looking forward to hearing from anyone who might have a clue as to the possibilities of my speculation regarding this Scottish - Cherokee connection. In advance, I thank you. Sincerely, Bellinda Myrick - Barnett BandB4951@aol.com
