Hi Josie and others on the list, Facts: I am Denise LINDSEY Wells My father is William Wilbert LINDSEY, Sr. He lives in Oak Park, Emanuel Co., GA. My grandfather was Ransom Wright LINDSEY also of Oak Park. My great-grandfather was Wes LINDSEY. He lived in Tattnall Co. Unproven Theory: I believe Wes LINDSEY was AKA George W. LINDSEY. Wes may also have been or used William LINDSEY. William was the son of Mary LINZEY. Another possibility is that William and Wes were brothers. The basis for my theory is this. William, Wes and George W scan a period of 1837 - 1903. However, no two of them appear in records (e.g., census records) at the same time. Both William and Wes fought in the Civil War, but their records are almost identical (duplicates ?) and only George W has a pension. Josie, If you or anyone else on the list has information that proves or disproves my theory, please share. Thanks, Denise

Hello Denice: We haven't Made any specific plans for events except we have the conference room to get together and swap records and storys and just get to know each other: I dont know how many will be there? we will probably do some research at the local librarys and court houses if there is any interest in that ? but we will just trade data and talk and have a good time. I have contacted most of the Motels in the area and this is the best offer I could get. no one HAS to stay there but they will GIVE us the Conference room if we have over 20 rooms registered. also they have other conveniences like all room near each other, and a continual breakfast free. We may have some one there who can tell us about some Lindsa/ey that lived in the area. or talk about other interest in genealogy? If you have some thing you wish for us to do let me know.gabbie At 09:56 PM 10/17/2001 -0400, you wrote: >Dear Raymond/gabbie, > >Thank you for the information on the Lindsey get-together. Dear Raymond/gabbie, Thank you for the information on the Lindsey get-together. I am not particularly interested in the Highland Games, but I am interested in the Lindsey plans. Do you have additional information about what will happen from the 15th until the games begin? My family is from Emanuel Co., GA. James A Webb and List, I was looking through some archived e-mails my cousin had sent to me and saw yours. I think this is our line and we have information on Jacob Lindsey. While looking for Jacob I have been seeing these other names. We recently had the will and deed films from Lauderdale Co Al. and it seems, this has to be our John, Jacob and Ezekiel. When Jacob died in New Madrid Mo. 1817 he had 4 minor daughters and named Robert Boyd as guardian. I don`t yet have information on any other children or the name of his wife. After seeing the Films we know they had some trouble with some of the property from John Lindseys will that was to go to Jacob Lindsey, now himself dec`d. This is 1823 by now and Robert Boyd gives his power of Attorney to Robert Pogue of Cooper Co. Mo.( Robert Pogue married Anna Lindsey daughter of Jacob). Robert contacts John Chisholm ( admin. of the will of John Lindsey) in Lauderdale Co Al and requests the property due to the minor orphans of Jacob Lindsey dec! `d. It states Jacob and Ezekiel are exs of the will of their father John Lindsey. Its 1824 before they get all this settled. I located a census in 1810 for Jacob Lindsey in Frederick Co Va. Jacob 1m under 10---1m 26-44---4 f under 10---1 f 10-15---f 26-44---2 slaves John 1m 16-25---1m 26-44---1m over 45---1 f 16-25---1 f over 45---2 slaves I`m sure you`ve seen this and I thought it had to be the right one. John was listed right under Jacob and so were Mary and Thomas. I will share anything I have or will have. I also go to the Church of LDS about once a week or so. If anyone has any suggestions on what to order, I would welcome the input . Robert Pogue and Anna (Lindsey) Pogue are my GGGgrandparents . Linda (Motley) Pasley

How strange. My Lindsay ancestors reportedly came from Northern Ireland, probably Londonderry. A Thomas Lindsay was killed just before setting sail to America abt. 1724. His wife and children went to America. Two of the known children, James and Thomas, b. 1723 & 1725 settled in Bridgewater, Mass. and later emigrated to Leeds, Maine. Some other people researching the Lindsays say that there were probably other brothers of Thomas. Indeed there is an Andrew Lindsay in Bridgewater, Mass. who we think might be related. (I believe Thomas had children named William, James, and not sure about John at the moment.) Somone found a listing for a Martha Lindsay (a widow) from Northern Ireland who arrived in America in 1719, but we thought that seemed impossible. I am going to Northern Ireland next month. Dear Gabbie: Thanks for your suggestion for a great reunion event. It is a smart idea to combine our family reunions with various Highland Games events. Unfortunately, my Josiah Lindsey Family Clans is having their next reunion on 25-28 April '02 in the Nashville, TN area. This Family Clans group includes the Lindsey, Harder, Mackey, Blain, Phillips, Stovall, etc descendents of Josiah Lindsey & Henrietta Harder. My wife has health problems so she might not be able to travel then and I would not want to be away for two successive weeks. Our reunion plan has been to back-track in history to follow our Josiah roots. So next year we'll be in TN, then in 03 in AL, and in 04 in North Carolina, etc until we get to Northern Ireland and then Scotland. Hopefully, we will be able to combine with you on your suggestion of holding the '04 NC event during the Lock Norman Highland Games. Stay in Touch and Stay Well. //Fred
Hi Cliff this may help some. there seems to be a gap between Robert who was in VA in 1665 and Robert of the Mount b 1710 d 1784 but Jerome is covered. Rev David Lindsay b in SCT 1603 d. in Northumberland Co. VA 1667, was the son of Sir Hierome (Jerome) Lindsay 1562-1642, who was the son of Sir David Lindsay 1532-1613, Bishop of Ross. and Margaret Colville. The Rev David Lindsay left his entire estate to his dau, Helen d. 1698, "Lynsday" and named her as executrix. She m. 1st Wiliam Wathen and 2nd Thomas Opie of Bristol, ENG. In 1662 Rev. David Lyndsay faced a fine of 10000 lbs of tobacco; he had married a servant of Col Richard Lee to another man's servant without Lee's consent. Lyndsay appealed this to James City, and the decision was overturned. He died in 1667, and we find James Clayton a witness to his will. Robert Lindsay came to VA abt the same time as the Rev David Lindsay. He is first mentioned in the records of Northumberland in 1665 when he testified on behalf of Susanna Lindsay and gave his age as twenty four. In the mid 1660s he had gone twice to Bristol and sailed back to VA. The assumption that he was the son of the Rev David Lindsay by his first wife has been disproved and the true relationship established by Mr. Donald Whyte, F.S.A. Scot., L.H.G., acting on behalf of Jo White Linn who prepared for Gordon Gray Esq., former Secretary of War under President Truman, the excellent genealogy entitled "The Gray Family and Allied Lines". Mr. Gray is a descendant of Robert Lindsay of The Mount, Fairfax Co. VA. Mr. Whyte found in the Scottish records that Sir Hierome Lindsay and his second wife Agnes Lindsay had dau Rachael (1612-1645) who married 1640 Lt. Col. Bernard Lindsay (1603-after 1646) of Lochehill, SCT, a distant cousin. Therefore, both Helen and Robert Lindsay were grandchildren of Sir Hierome Lindsay. Robert was also a great grandson of Sir David Lindsay of The Mount. A close relationship did exist between Rev David Lindsay and Robert Lindsay, possibly related to the fact that Robert's mother died immediately after his birth and his father was engaged in military service, and Rev David may have undertaken to raise Robert in his home and brought Robert to Virginia with him. p. 76 Fourteen years after the death of the minister, 1681, the records of Northumberland Court House show that a "Robert Lyndsay of Cherry Poynt was a resident". This is proof he lived near the minister as the minister's home was in Cherry Poynt in this county. "Robert Lindsay made oath concerning a statement of one Richard Thompson who circulated a malicious and scandalous report about the wife of Mr. David Lindsay, for which he was indicted and convicted by Court." Northumberland Court House Records, January 1665. p. 186-187-188. Children of Robert Lindsay 1710-1784: 1. William m. Ann Calvert. 2. Opie m. 3 times. Opie was Principal benefactor in his father's will. "Opie looked upon himself as the head of the family despite his having an elder brother, but it was doubtless on account of his inheriting the paternal homestead. Opie served for awhile, in youth, in the Revolutionary war as bearer of dispatches from one position of the army to another and had some narrow escapes, which it is said he was fond of relating." Collins. Descendant of Opie Lindsay, of Virginia. Daughter of Dr. Opie John Lindsay and Emily Trabue Clarkson, his wife. Granddaughter of Thomas Lindsay and Rebecca Brennon, his wife. Gr.-granddaughter of Opie Lindsay and Margaret Lambkin, his 1st wife. Opie Lindsay, (1745-1815), was a dispatch bearer in the Revolution. He was born and died in Fairfax Co., Va. 3. Mary Ann m.
