    3. Hello Elizabeth, I very much wanted to drop you a note, your having taken the time to write me a most kind email. So, here 'tis. I imagine Ron Lindsay, or someone, in conjunction with the DNA project at clanlindsey.com, will come calling (electronically) to take you up on that offer. Your original idea of tracking Linds*ys "from any source with the goal of eventually linking them all together" is one that is shared by all of those participating in the DNA project. Maybe, with all of the new advances of the Information Age, life will have a tougher time getting in our collective way. > > So, I greatly admire those of you who keep lots of names on your computers, > and can help others. But, as a man on the Academy Awards said last Sunday, it seems so odd to be noted simply for doing what our mothers and fathers had always taught us was the decent thing to do. > Philip - keep writing and letting us know what you find. 1. [LINDSEY] Re: Create Lindsey web site
    2. Robert Jordan
    3. In order to keep track of all of the Lindsey-Lindsay families, there needs to be a separate web site where contributions can be made. In my particular line a John Lindsey (born about 1775) has been connected to several other ancestors. That's right, he had several different biological fathers. I've seen several other families do the same. The site needs to be in a place where it will stay, and if possible, web site coordinators can change if needed. The coordinator also needs to have a love of the entire family research and wouldn't mind putting these various family lines (and their variations) in one place. That would take a very dedicated person who might take several years to complete the project. Then DNA testing might help a great deal. Putting DNA lines in the right classes would also take some doing. Is everyone ready to find out they might not be connected to ANY older Lindsey-Lindsay line? Bob

    1. [LINDSEY] Lawrence Co., AL, Lindseys
    2. William Lindsey
    3. Josie, Thanks for posting information about your Zach Lindsey and other Lawrence Co., AL, Lindseys. I may be able to help a bit by identifying some of the Lindseys who appear in your list of Lawrence Co., AL, marriages: 1) C.W. Lindsey who m. Sarah Elizabeth Moseley on 13 May 1872 is Charles Washington Lindsey (7 Jan. 1848-2 Feb. 1914), son of David Dinsmore Lindsey and Sarah Parker Brooks; 2) James D. Lindsey who m. Martha W. Kitchens on 20 June 1872 is James Dennis Lindsey (17 Jan. 1838-3 Aug. 1883), son of Fielding Wesley Lindsey and Clarissa Elizabeth Brooks; 3) Martha J. Lindsey who m. Alexander Dutton on 24 May 1869 was actually Martha Jane Hampton, who had previously been married to John Wesley Lindsey, brother to Charles Washington, above; 4) W.T. Lindsey who m. Martha Livingston on 22 Dec. 1868 was William J. Lindsey (21 Sept. 1839-13 Jan. 1892), brother to James Dennis, above; 5) Fielding W. Lindsey who m. Clarissa E.B. Brooks on 20 June 1835 was Fielding Wesley Lindsey (11 Dec. 1813-21 March 1868), son of Mark Lindsey and Mary Jane Dinsmore; 6) As noted in 3, John Wesley Lindsey (1839-?) m. Martha Jane Hampton on 3 June 1862; he was brother to Charles Washington Lindsey, above; 7) The John Wesley Lindsey (1813-?) who m. Margaret Gibson on 18 March 1836 was a son of Dennis Lindsey and Jane Brooks; 8) Lavisa Lindsey who m. J.N. Wade on 31 Oct. 1872 was Louvisa Jane Lindsey (23 Feb. 1850-?), daughter of Samuel Asbury Lindsey and Mary Jane Hunter (spouse was Jasper Newton Wade); 9) Mark I. Lindsey who m. Mary Jane Harrison on 22 Oct. 1839 was Mark Jefferson Lindsey (1820-1878), another son of Dennis Lindsey and Jane Brooks; 10) Mary J. Lindsey who m. James I. Brooks on 25 Feb. 1840 was Mary Jane Lindsey (10 Nov. 1826-abt. 4 Nov. 1850), sister to Mark Jefferson above; 11) Samuel A. Lindsey who m. Mary Jane Hunter on 12 Oct. 1840 was Samuel Asbury Lindsey (1826-4 Apr. 1865), brother to Mary Jane and Mark Jefferson. These Lindseys all descend from Mark Lindsey, who was b. 1773 in Spartanburg Co., SC, d. 10 Apr. 1847 at Crowdabout, Morgan Co., AL. Abt. 1791 in Spartanburg Co., he m. Mary Jane Dinsmore, daughter of David and Margaret Dinsmore. The couple had three children: Dennis (b. 28 Dec. 1794, Spartanburg Co., SC, d. 28 Aug. 1838, Oakville, Lawrence Co. AL); Fielding Wesley (see above); and David Dinsmore (b. 3 Nov. 1815, Wayne Co., KY, d. 18 March 1873, Lawrence Co., AL). Dennis m. Jane Brooks, dau. of Thomas Brooks and Sarah Whitlock, on 18 Feb. 1813 in Wayne Co., KY. Fielding Wesley m. Clarissa E. Brooks, as above, daughter of James Brooks and Nancy Isbell. David Dinsmore Lindsey m. Sarah Parker Brooks, sister to Jane, on 1 May 1838 in Morgan Co., AL. James and Thomas Brooks were brothers. I am fairly confident that Mark Lindsey (b. 1773) was a son of Dennis Lindsey, a Revolutionary soldier in Spartanburg Co., SC. He seems to have been b. abt. 1755, prob. in Granville Co., NC, d. abt. 12 Jan. 1795 in Spartanburg Co. Dennis Lindsey (b. 1755) was a son of William Lindsey (b. abt. 1737), who d. aft. Feb. 1796 in Spartanburg Co., SC. William Lindsey (b. abt. 1737) was son of Dennis Lindsey (b. abt. 1710), who d. Aug. 1762 in Granville Co., SC. I've tracked Dennis back to Spotsylvania Co., VA, where he appears from 1728 up to 1733. I find him once in 1734/5 in Brunswick Co., VA, records. Thereafter from 1742 he's in Edgecombe, later Granville, Co., NC, records up to his death in 1762. This Dennis Lindsey seems closely connected to a William Lindsey who is also in Spotsylvania Co., VA, records from 1722 up to 1743, when he begins to appear in Brunswick Co., VA, records (with one appearance in Edgecombe Co., NC, records). This William d. bef. 26 Sept. 1768 in Brunswick Co., VA. There are a few hints that William may have originated in New Kent Co., VA. Will gladly share on these Lindseys. One note: your Zach Lindsey in Lawrence Co. had a son Jerome. Could he possibly be a descendant of the Lindsay family of Cherrypoint in Northumberland Co., VA, who used Jerome as a given name? 1. Re: [LINDSEY] LINDSAYs of TN-WM

    3. Hi Brenda and all, oh those Lindsays who passed thru TN - how elusive they are. mine is WILLIAM LINSEY (Lindsay) and Mary Polly ALVIS who m. in 1802 in Augusta Co. VA, Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church. her brother Harris Alvis & her brother in Law Clarke signed the bond so maybe they all went together. We have suspected for a long time that they were in Giles TN before moving into Alabama. my gf son of William is Zachariah Lindsay b abt 1814 in TN or VA or PA depending on which kid talked to the census taker in 1850, etc. When VA is that close to TN it could be Washington Co. VA which later became TN. I have been chasing the Lindsay's for many years and have yet to find my gf Zach's siblings. There is a 12 year gap between the date of marriage 1802 and his birth of 1814, plenty of time for lots of siblings. It is most likely that Zachariah was named after his mother's brother Zachariah ALVIS, who traveled around quite a bit from VA to Sumner Co. TN to Huntsville, AL and on. My Zach married in 1835 in Huntsville, AL to Martha MONTGOMERY - so i have tried to chase the Montgomery's but there are so many of them especially in the War of 1812. They settled in Lawrence Co. Alabama where she died abt 1849 and he remarried Nancy HARRISON of Athens, Limestone Co. AL. and later they moved there and are buried there with a very nice monument. Zach was a farmer but not a dummy as he made a large family and lived thru and survived pretty well the occupation by the union. This large family was educated and had a piano where the girls became proficient in music and became music teachers. The boys became merchants. Since i have tracked the ALVIS lines until I am blue in the face and document them back to George ALVES of old Virginia 1600s, i do not think William would be allowed in the family if he was not probably old Virginia too. George has many land records and was a vestryman. Polly ALVIS had many brothers in the Rev War. Possible she met William H. Lindsay that way or they were neighbors in New Kent, Fluvanna, Hanover or Goochland. Her father David Alvis died bef 1814, her mother may be Mary Cauthorn (Vol. III, Page 400: "Lawrence Ferguson, 350 acres (New Land), Hanover County; -->adjacent Mr. Alves; Christopher Cawthon; John Crenshaw; & Thomas Grant; 25 Aug. 1731, 35 shillings." and George ALVES 3rd wife Mary CRENSHAW.) In Alabama Zachs family was Cumberland Presbyterian and like the preacher Rev. Robert Donnell so much they named one of their children Benjamin Donnell Lindsay. I went to Nashville one time and visited the old Cumberland Presb. Church. I have put some loose Lindsays as Zach's sibs just to see if I might run into something, so if you see anything here that rings any bell please reply asap! they are: 1. 3. Philip: I greatly enjoyed reading your Laban Lindsey saga. In 1996 when I joined this list, I resolved to track every Lindsey/Lindsay name I received from any source with the goal of eventually linking them all together. However. . .life got in the way, and I didn't get very far. I did however, enter the book, Ephraim Lindsey and His Descendants, into Family Tree Maker. My parents bought the book in the early 1960's thinking it might provide some connections (it didn't). If anyone is interested in that database, I am happy to provide a copy. So, I greatly admire those of you who keep lots of names on your computers, and can help others. I well know the thrill of making connections. Helping others, even when you are not directly related, is very altruistic. I ran into someone on another line who was so unhelpful, you would have thought I had asked him to fly as send me some copies, even after I offered to pay for stamps and photocopies. My point, after all this, is that researching and finding ancestors is a great endeavor and very rewarding. But we rise to the next level when we share with no thought of personal gain. Philip - keep writing and letting us know what you find. You express yourself very well and I for one will be interested in whatever you are doing. 2. Laurence Lee
    3. Being a female descendant of Col. John Lindsey and Alce Crosson, I read (and then deleted) all of Ron Lindsay's emails on the project. I have 4 brothers who are direct descendants, but wasn't sure I wanted to spend the $$ to pay for testing one of them (3 of the 4 just never seem to have any money, if you get my drift, and genealogy isn't the priority for them that it is for me). Now, after reading this past week's messages about pooling funds to test male descendants from the various branches, I would like to know if anyone else out there would be interested in contributing to testing one of my brothers. Even $10 or $20 would be appreciated. Please let me know at your earliest convenience. You may email me directly at larrylee.1@att.net . Elizabeth (Lindsey) Lee
