Debbie Honeycutt, There is a will placed online by Sevierville library - look it up over at gedcom forum for Sevier County, TN. It's there - that's what will I'm talking about, the one you mention is much later as it shows my ggg James Napoleon is by that time dead! -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Chrystie, ROOTSWEB LIST ADMIN. What will do you refer to? I find no record of a will on Jesse Lindsey in Sevier county; however, there is a settlement of the estate of Joel Lindsey which names his brothers and sisters as his heirs. His brother, Jesse, is listed as follows: The children of Jesse Lindsey a deceased brother to wit (1)Andy Lindsey (2) Margaret Myres whose husband Napoleon Myers is now dead and she has since remarried Hayworth". ----- Original Message ----- From: Chrystie <administrator.c.ccm@verizon.net> To: <LINDSEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 19, 2002 7:40 PM Subject: [LINDSEY] RE: LINDSEY lines of Sevier Co. Hi All! I just joined-in and wish to post my lineage w/hopes that someone out here is connected to me! This isn't my Lindsey family, but thought I'd send it to the list in case it may help someone else. I found this paragraph in the book, Kentucky Court and Other Records, Volume II compiled by Julia Hope Spencer Ardery (Mrs. William Ardery) published by The Keystone Printery in 1932: BOURBON COUNTY (Formed from Fayette County, 1785) Abstracts by Jane Clay Kenney ---------- Wills from Books A, B, C, and D BRANHAM, MARGARET -- Nuncupative will -- About then days before her death, October 18, 1847, stated to Margaret A. Scott at her home, her intention to leave estate in hands of James Lindsay for support of Jacob Lindsay; said James to be reasonably compensated for acting as trustee; also made this statement to Maria L. Rogers. Sworn to by Margaret A. Scott, Oct. 1847. Further stated to James Lindsay she owed her son, Jacob Lindsay a dividend from her estate, paid her other children and intended giving him all, to be placed in the hands of Isaac Skinner for his use. Sworn to by Jas. Lindsay, Nov. 1, 1847. Proved Nov. 1847. Note: The above Margaret Branham was formerly the widow of Thomas Lindsay of Culpepper County, VA, and was half-sister of Thomas Hutchcraft (Revolutionary Soldier). Thomas Lindsay, accoarding to a letter written by his granddaughter, was a merchant, and, after the Revolutionary War, went into the Carolinas to trade and was lost there. His widow marrie! d James Branham in Culpepper County, VA, 1806 and soon thereafter moved to Kentucky. Issue of Thomas and Margaret Lindsay as given in the above mentioned letter: Jacob, Reubin; Thomas married Elizabeth Elkin; Nimrod Long married 1817 Lavinia Garrard Grimes and died Sept. 2, 1840, his wife died Sept. 14, 1840; Margaret A; Charles born Nov. 27, 1795; Nancy married Mr. Todd; Elizabeth and Jane."

When I lived in England, and a boy, I was very interested in History. I remember that in Lincolnshire, during the Roman occupation, Lindum was the name of part of that area, which later evolved into Lindesley, Lindsey. I think that Lindum became Lincoln, but I am not sure. This seems to me, is the area where the Lindsey people came from ? Now Lindsay, I think is a Scottish Clan, and its emblem is the White Swan. I don,t think that Lindsey has it,s ground in Scotland. I would welcome any opinions about this. Frank Covey, Oregon.
Thank you, Josie, for all the detail. I love detail! Sorry, this is a different Robert. His Will dated 11 Sep 1784 proved 16 Nov 1784 naming his wife Susan and children: William, Opie, Mary Ann and Thomas. Execs: Opie and Thomas Lindsay. i should have left his children out of that message - sorry to confuse you, this Robert d. 1784 moved to Fairfax around 1740 and on 12 Aug 1743 executed a bill of sale reciting that he was "Of the county of Fairfax and Colony of Virginia" by which he transferred to William Taylor, his step-father, all his rights as life tenant to the lands in Northumberland which his preceding stepfather Thomas Ashton had left to him by his will. His father Opie Lindsay, Esq. died in 1727 (Son of Robert, the immigrant). The way I doped it out is Robert the immigrant had a son Opie Lindsay who had this Robert abt 1710-1784. Hi, I found this in my notes, i have not seen the book just a reference to it. josie Robert Lindsay came to VA abt the same time as the Rev David Lindsay. He is first mentioned in the records of Northumberland in 1665 when he testified on behalf of Susanna Lindsay and gave his age as twenty four. In the mid 1660s he had gone twice to Bristol and sailed back to VA. The assumption that he was the son of the Rev David Lindsay by his first wife has been disproved and the true relationship established by Mr. Donald Whyte, F.S.A. Scot., L.H.G., acting on behalf of Jo White Linn who prepared for Gordon Gray Esq., former Secretary of War under President Truman, the excellent genealogy entitled "The Gray Family and Allied Lines". Mr. Gray is a descendant of Robert Lindsay of The Mount, Fairfax Co. VA. Mr. Whyte found in the Scottish records that Sir Hierome Lindsay and his second wife Agnes Lindsay had dau Rachael (1612-1645) who married 1640 Lt. Col. Bernard Lindsay (1603-after 1646) of Lochehill, SCT, a distant cousin. Therefore, both Helen and Robert Lindsay were grandchildren of Sir Hierome Lindsay. Robert was also a great grandson of Sir David Lindsay of The Mount. A close relationship did exist between Rev David Lindsay and Robert Lindsay, possibly related to the fact that Robert's mother died immediately after his birth and his father was engaged in military service, and Rev David may have undertaken to raise Robert in his home and brought Robert to Virginia with him. p. 76 Fourteen years after the death of the minister, 1681, the records of Northumberland Court House show that a "Robert Lyndsay of Cherry Poynt was a resident". This is proof he lived near the minister as the minister's home was in Cherry Poynt in this county. "Robert Lindsay made oath concerning a statement of one Richard Thompson who circulated a malicious and scandalous report about the wife of Mr. David Lindsay, for which he was indicted and convicted by Court." Northumberland Court House Records, January 1665. p. 186-187-188. Children of Robert Lindsay: 1. William m. Ann Calvert. 2. Opie m. 3 times. 3. Mary Ann m. Henry Boggess, 4.Thomas 1750-1830 m. Martha Scott-Fox b PA - issue 9 children. m. and 2nd Susan Stubblefield. Josie: I was entering info from your email regarding Robert Lindsay and have a problem with the dates. You list the Northumberland Court Records, January 1665, and the child Thomas, 1750-1830. Did you mean, 1650-1730? Otherwise, Robert couldn't have been Thomas' father. Elizabeth Lindsey Lee
