    1. [LINDSEY] Levi Lindsey

    3. Looking for desc. of Levi Lindsey (1790-1800 - bef 1850) Levi Lindsey, b. 1790-1800 TN, d. possibly before 1850 Fayette Co. AL (no marker found), was possibly a brother of William L. Lindsey and Jacob Lindsey. Levi Lindsey married Juda ____ b. Feb.7, 1805, in TN, NC, or MS (according to different census records) d. Dec.28, 1893 Fayette Co. AL. Juda (Judah - Judy) is buried in Bethlehem Cemetery north of Fayette. Her tombstone reads " Of the virtuous and Godly woman the Bible says that her children shall arise and call her blessed. Is life then a sacrifice? Aged 88 yrs. 10 mo. 21 days." Sharlene Stough of Fayette, AL lists three possible children of Levi and Juda Lindsey, which are difficult to account for: Levi Lindsey, b. Sept.18,1819, m. Delitha Douglas Alley, Emily Lindsey, b. ca 1823 m. J.S. Clifton, and Temperance Lindsey, b. ca 1825 m. Daniel G. Kirkland. The difficulty with the son Levi is that Juda would have been only fourteen years old when he was born (this is possible). One researcher Sharlene talked with surmised that Levi may have had a previous wife, but I have been unable to find anything supporting this theory. The difficulty with Emily and Temperance is that I cannot account for them in the 1830 or 1840 census records. Both of these years list two males of the right ages and I suppose that it's possible that this was just a misprint both times. Of course this would then leave out Levi in 1830 as a son. It is possible that one or all are children of Levi's brothers. The known children of Levi and Juda Lindsey are: Salena Lindsey, b. ca 1827, James M. Lindsey b. Dec.4,1828, m. Nancy Jane Walden, Clarissa (Chelsia?) Lindsey b. ca 1832 m. Calvin Guin, John Lindsey b. ca 1834, Ellen Lindsey b. ca 1836, Martin L. Lindsey b. ca 1837 m. Margaret Redus (Mrs. James F. Molloy), Catharine (Caroline?) Lindsey b. ca 1838, Martha Adaline Lindsey b. Mar.5,1839 m. John T. Yerby, Laura Susan Lindsey b. ca 1841, (10) Louisa (Lisa?) Ann Lindsey b. ca 1844. 3. Found these last night while sifting thru my old Pennsylvania Church Records. I know nothing else about these lines. The year was 1775 St. James Episcopal (Anglican) 18th Century church records from Lancaster County, PA. *On Dec 7, 1775 a James LINDSAY of the 26th Regt. Married a Mary MYERS* Not 1 other LINDSAY in my files, and they're pretty extensive BUT below are the MYERS that I found, spelled as MEYER MYERS MIER(S) ALL 1775 Ann m. on Nov 11 to John FRANCISCUS at St. James Elizabeth on June 13 m. John BEAR, license exists John b Apr 2 m. Anna Maria THERITHINGER, license exists Mary m. John LINDSEY on Dec 7 Ann Oct 17 m. John SMITH Christian (Female) Jan 8 m. John DENNIS Mary May 18th m. Laurence MASKELL Richard on June 21 m. Anne MOOR Susanna March 29 m. Nicholas KIMMEL, published A little history on St. James http://www.lancasterpa.net/photo_tour/historic_buildings/st_james.htm Founded in 1744, St. James Parish is the oldest Episcopal Parish in the County.  In 1753 the first building was completed, sans steeple. In 1761 a cupola was added for the bell. The original church, outgrown by 1820, was torn down and replaced by a red brick structure which is now the central portion of the nave. Its original Georgian style subsequently gave way to the present Lombard-Romanesque architecture with the expansion of the church in the 1870s. The present tower was erected in 1880. St. James' House was built beside the old rectory in  1903. The most recent addition is the arcade, enclosing a garden of greenery, erected in 1961-2.   A tour of the memorial tablets in the sanctuary, and the graves in the ancient, elm-shaded churchyard, reveal the names of such worthies as George Ross, signer of the Declaration of Independence; Capt. Stephen Chambers, Judge Jasper Yeats and ironmaster Robert Coleman, all members of the State Convention which ratified the Constitution of the United States. Also resting here are Edward Shippen, chairman of the Lancaster Committee of Correspondence during the Revolution and Gen. Edward Hand, friend and Adjutant General to George Washington. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Chrystie, ROOTSWEB LIST ADMIN. 2. Sandra Thompson
    3. Our evening newspaper contained an article that listed the gravesite of one Herbert Lindsay who died in 1883 at the age of 29 years. I wanted to let everyone know on the outside chance that he might be someone you've been looking for. Some students at the College of Charleston (SC) were "uncovering and cleaning old graves as part of an assignment" in the graveyard of the Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul in Charleston, SC. One of the tombstones found and cleaned was that of the above mentioned Mr. Lindsay. There was no further information in the article about this person. The article is from THE ITEM, Thursday, May 30, 2002, Volume 107, Number 224; page 8A; Sumter, SC; and is entitled "Students find lost graves in Charleston". sandiet

    3. Hi Lou, I think my Missouri Asberry is a different guy (indeed, if he is only one guy in Missouri). What I have is this. 1) Asbury Linza, 1860 Federal Census, Buchanan County, Mo. 2) Asbury D. Lindsey, GLO Records, bought 320 acres, Jackson Co, Mo, 5/1/1857 (1&2 are probably the same) 3) Ashberry Lindsey married Matilda Absher on 2/26/1863, Iron County, MO. (my hunch is #3 is not the same as 1 &2) Think this is a miss, but maybe there is some connection through umpteenth cousins. 3. Hi Phil, Thanks for responding. I am trying to send this, but on my screen the print looks so very small -- I hope you can read it. Let me know if you can't. However I can tell you the answer to your question and that may be all you want anyway. He was born Jan. 16, 1832. Gramma Lou Wesley Asberry Lindsey Generation No. 1 1. Wesley Asberry3 Lindsey (Jacob Abrell2, Jacob1) (Source: (1) LDS Family Search Ancestral File, "Electronic," (AFN:B5CO-V9)., (2) Ancestry.com, "Electronic," Gmjackie49@aol.com.) was born Jan 16, 1832 in Near Macon, Bibb, GA (Source: Carmen Davis, "Electronic."), and died in Dustin, OK (Source: (1) Carmen Davis, "Electronic," "Letter #2 from John Alice Alzena Lindsey Leggett, says he moved to Ark. I am assuming he died there.", (2) Sally Lucius, "Electronic," ""I received a letter from one of Talithia Jane Lindsey Davis grandson, Carroll Glen Davis back in 1995.....any way, he said that Wesley Asberry Lindsey came to Arkansas and went on to Dustin, Oklahoma and died threre...."). He married (1) Cyntha Robinson (Source: (1) Carmen Davis, "Electronic.", (2) Sally Lucius, "Electronic."), daughter of Arther Robinson and Elizabeth Lindsey. She was born Unknown (Source: Carmen Davis, "Electronic."). He married (2) Frances (Lindsey) Bef. 1854 (Source: 1860 Calhoun MS Federal Census, (19 Aug. 1860).). She was born Abt. 1838 in Mississippi, and died Unknown. He married (3) Emmaline Hunt (Source: (1) Eloise Fretz Potter & Timothy Wiley Rackley, RACKLEY, A SOUTHERN COLONIAL FAMILY, (Potter Publication Services, 9433 Baker Rd., Zebulon, NC), 375., (2) Felicia Gourdin & Clara Hunt Miller, HUNT Gedcom File, "Electronic.") Abt. 1855 (Source: Internet, "Electronic," http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Lane/1191/d0004/g0000031. html#1971.), daughter of Moses Hunt and Malinda Redwine. She was born Abt. 1834 in Bibb, GA (Source: (1) Internet, "Electronic," Family Search, group record., (2) Courtney Tompkins, "Electronic," <tompkin@c2i2.com>, b. abt 1836 in MS.). Notes for Wesley Asberry Lindsey: In the 1840 Census, Wesley A. is listed as age 8, which would have made him born in 1832 and he had a brother named Isaac S. who was 4 (1836). Wesley was born in Georgia according to this census. In the August 19th, 1860 Census, Wesley is listed as being age 28 (1832). His son "Cornelius Linsey" is listed as being born in 1857 which is two years earlier than thought to be his birth year, if this is indeed my grandfather. Wesley's wife is named "Frances" and my grandparents named their second daughter "Frances". My Grandparent's first daughter was named "Dovie" which , I assume, is a variation on the maiden name of my grandmother, which was "Dover." In this 1860 Census, Wesley was listed as a Farmer with the value of his personal property listed as $200. .Listed just ahead of them in the census is an Isaac S. Linsey, age 24 (1836), married to an Elizabeth, who could be Wesley's brother and the namesake of "Isaac Cornelius Lindsey" Also, just above them is listed a "Jacob Linsey", age 54, who could have been the father of both Wesley and Isaac Linsey. He also had a son named William, born in 1856 who could have been named for his brother, William M. (1838).I also wonder if the "M" could have stood for "Madison" the name of one of my Grandfather's sons. Or "Mansel" another son. 1860 Census -- Roll 578 pg. (103)639 Aug. 19, Calhoun Co.
