Author: sdillon2184 Surnames: Hughes, Hicks Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lindamood/1.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: ...and can you share what Documentation links these people with "our" Daniel Hughes? I don't mean to offend you, but I'm pretty certain that you can't....because Nobody making these claims online can truly back up what they say. I say that because I also came across these claims online some time back. When I contacted the person, she was slow to share sources for the info she'd also posted as if it were a proven fact... but she did finally name a couple of things that were "supposed" to back up her claims. Of course, IF I am Wrong and you do have documentation....PLEASE SHARE the Real sources for your claims. There are MANY of us...your cousins... who'd love to finally -truly- prove Daniel's ancestry. When I found the so-called sources she'd named and read them myself, I found out that they DO NOT show ANYTHING that links any of them to our Daniel, nor did they name the man who married Nicketti. When I mentioned this fact, she finally admitted that everything she'd posted as facts was really "just conjecture". In other words, a big fat GUESS...something that IS NOT good enough in genealogy. I understand how frustrating it is to have an ancestor be a huge brick wall for years ...and then when you come across something that sounds like somebody's broken down that wall it's so exciting that many people forget to stop - and think - and make sure there's a truly good reason to accept it. Nobody who really cares about their family tree should accept what they see online without Very Good Reasons backing it up. People should never post their theories as if they are proven fact. That's the kind of thing that's caused me to find some random parents attached to another one of my 'brick walls' and then copied by people who didn't look or think enough to see that they'd died about 115 years before she was born and not even in the same region. Just because something comes up in the hints...that doesn't mean it IS about that ancestor. Just because someone posts something...that doesn't mean it's true. Just because it's in another tree...that doesn't make it true either. I was very excited to think that someone had finally figured out Daniel's family too....but it just doesn't add up. If it did, somebody would have a source to document it ---that actually said what they claimed it did. PS> By the way, Nicketti's aunt (Pocahontas) did not marry John Smith as you state...she married John Rolfe. You are also confused in some of your info on Daniel's own family including the fact that Jinsa Jane Hicks is NOT the daughter of Reuben Hicks and Christina Powers. It is documented that she is an heir of Calibourne Hicks. Ann Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: njwinter Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lindamood/44.54.64.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have a Christopher Lindemuth/Lindamood but I don't know much about where he connects to my family. All of my Lindamood's are buried at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Jerome, VA. They go way back, if you go to the intersection of R717 and R720 and take R720 that goes by the Menonite Church, sit there at the church for a minute and look at the four corners. The house on the lower side of Rt 717 is the old log home that was built about 1780's and the last time I saw it all of the same lines of the house are the same. Whoever took over the house last has made some changes to the property, it looked as if they were in construction so the look of the old home place had changed. It was yellow siding but the back of the house still has the big beautiful logs exposed. This was Barb property. If you look across the road to the church, the property on the right of the road belonged to Philip Lindamood. When Philip's wife died and Jacob Barb died Philip married Catherine Barb whic! h merged all of those properties. The Barb and Lindamood property continued right of the Menonite church on Rt. 717 which is called Alum Springs Road and Barb property was left of the church on Rt. 717 on Alum Springs Rd. The property also continued up Rt. 720 past the Adam Barb Cave property on both sides of the road along Barb Run. Their is a one acre plot around the cave that many Barb relatives own, with me being one of them and then I along with four other cousins owns the Sugar Mountain property around the cave property. It goes on both sides of the road Rt. 720. That property is for sale. There is roughly 50 acres there. It is also the connecting property for the Monongahela National Forrest. If you stop to look the property is posted and I would not walk across the creek, there is quick sand there. I found out the hard way. LOL. Barb's own the property between Rt. 720 and Rt. 717 past the old log house. We have 31 acres in that plat also and as far as I kn! ow there is another plot next to ours that is for sale unless it has b een sold. This property either connects or almost connects to the Bayse Resort property, Sky Bryce. Most of those Lindamoods are buried at St. Paul's at Jerome. My email is njwinter@yahoo.com One more thing there is a Lindamood book in the genealogy department at the Edinburg Library and the Barb book there probably has a lot of info on Lindamood's.
