    3. Good Evening Sandy..... Sorry for my delay in reply I am preparing for my vacation which starts tomorrow! I can place at least John LIDDELL in Wapping, East London in 1867 as this is when and where he marries Jane PUZEY. I cannot find an 1871 census entry for him as yet but the 1881 places him and his family in Bethnal Green, London & then the 1891 places them in Battersea, South London. Both census images give his place of birth as Edinburgh, Scotland. His marriage certificate states that his father is "Robert LIDDELL" a "Dealer" from "Scotland" After searching the IGI the only likely candidate I could come up with was this father/son from Bo'ness. My knowledge of Scotland is pretty poor at the moment (disgraceful I know, sorry!) but I wondered if Bo'ness could be considered "Edinburgh" like some of the outer boroughs of London are still considered "Greater London"?? -- Claire Turner British Virgin Islands http://www.claireturner.com/thefamilytree.html Researching: BRANFILL / BRANFIELD, CHAMBERLAINE, LIDDELL, LODDY / LODEY, MACARTHY / McCARTHY, ROBERTS & TURNER EoL FHS #10880

    3. Hi All If this location doesn't work out try Bowness near Lake Windermere ..... In the mid 1800's movement in the UK was at its height .... since the majority of the working class didn't own their own property nor did they have much furniture or personal effects they used to move sometimes overnight when the chance of new better well paid work was available or work became scarce. Transportation was quite good and cheap so people would move substantial distances ...... There are migration maps available showing generalised movement with dates. ALSO remember that people used to say the first place they could remember as a child as their place of birth especially on Census's, so take EVERYTHING with a pinch of salt even statutory certificates !! If it is scotland he was born then civil marriage certificates are a boon .... giving both the bride and grooms mothers maiden names and the parents date and place of marriage. Similar info is available for birth certificates. regards Bill ======================================================================== * This Mail was sent WITHOUT attachments* Bill Harrison's Genealogy Pages can be found online at http://www.harrisongenealogy.co.uk Also BMSGH Webmaster - URL = http://www.bmsgh.org The Staffordshire BMD can be found at http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk and the West Midlands BMD at http://www.westmidlandsbmd.org.uk ======================================================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: "Claire Turner" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 13, 2004 1:56 AM Subject: Re: [LIDDELL] John & Robert LIDDLE > Good Evening Sandy..... > > Sorry for my delay in reply I am preparing for my vacation which starts > tomorrow!
