These surnames include but are not limited to: Liddell, Liddle, Lidell, Lydell, Lindell, Litdell, Lidel, Lydel and so forth. The complete list is available by writing James W. Liddell at [email protected] This list includes the surname for this board and/or mailing list. The issues we will address with the Team Liddell et al DNA/mtDNA Study includes cross-linking lines across these various variant surnames and within lines of the same surname. Our several decades of genealogical research reveal positively that our longest documented lines cannot reliably reach past the mid-1600s in Scotland and cannot be linked at all to many of the other variants through records research. Yet, our special statistical analyses using Excel spreadsheets and other techniques yield powerful indications that many of the Liddesdale-derived surname variants have common ancestors perhaps back in the 1300s and 1400s and some historical inquires suggest even earlier common ancestors. This also is an excellent opportunity to gain DNA-based knowledge about the ancestors of those individuals whose surnames are of interest to us but which are so uncommon that it is not feasible to run a DNA study, and for individuals or small groups of related individuals who have taken the record search back as far as they can and have run into brick walls as recently as the last century or during the 1800s, to cite two periods with which some Team Liddell members are concerned. For everyone in the Liddesdale-derived surname cluster, including those participating in this particular surname board or mailing list you are reading, the Team Liddell et al DNA/mtDNA Study will provide a very real scientific opportunity to understand where each line's most remote documented ancestors came from and/or to which of the other lines they may be related, and then use these very solid indications to better focus further document and public/church record research. We want to exclusively use the Y-37DNA (males) and mtDNA37 (females) tests and have negotiated group rates for both tests, their processing, interpretation and 20-year results storage. Our Study will not accept the limited 12-marker test results and we greatly discourage use of the currently popular 25-marker tests. The 37-marker DNA and mtDNA tests hold the greatest promise for our Study in our and our experts' opinions both now and for years to come. All tests are pain free and take fewer than five minutes to self-administer. Everything is done by mail. No physician visits are involved. Tested individuals can always withdraw their test results completely and easily from our Study The Team Liddell et al DNA/mtDNA Study will be administered by Team Liddell and by what is reported to be the world's largest company in the field, which will also provide interpretations of each participant's DNA test result and other free services. Write [email protected] for the rates and full disclosure of additional details. Team Liddell et al pledges to fully cooperate with any other existing genealogy DNA study or any begun in the future. The Team, just as with the company it is working, has taken extraordinary measures to ensure complete privacy for each participant in every regard--from identity and email addresses to test results and interpretations. Team Liddell also provides permanent secure storage for all test results both on the Web and its successors and in the archives of selected universities worldwide. Team Liddell et al and its outside staff advisors are all volunteers and receive no financial or other types of benefits in any manner from this study or from any future study which may come from it. Test participants deal directly with the testing company but with Team Liddell's oversight and assistance present at every step of the short process. Team Liddell et al is a sizable and well-established worldwide voluntary association of private, non-professional family genealogists with no dues or assessments, no copyrighted materials and with nothing to sell. The Team is not incorporated and has no officers. James W. Liddell serves as a type of administrative hub for the Team and as its public contact. As an added bogus, all Team Liddell et al DNA/mtDNA Study participants will be granted access to the Team's archives containing nearly 40 megabytes of downloadable genealogy, reference and essay files. Write [email protected] today for complete information and personal handling since the Study launches Oct. 15, 2004 and the more participants we have, the stronger the test results will be for each person.
