    1. Re: [LIDDELL] LIDDELL from Scotland
    2. Hi Barbara, This James Liddell isn't one of mine (so far).? I bought an old whisky flagon, probably dating to around 1870 - 1890, from a local auction house.? It is typically Scottish with a "treacle-glazed" collar with the words "James Liddell Wine Merchant Crossburnhouse Slamannan" impressed into it.? It was made in Glasgow by Grosvenor Pottery, Bridgeton. My Liddells came from Polmont and Muiravonside in Stirlingshire, along the south shore of the river Forth.? Slamannan isn't a million miles away.? Plus, my gt-gt-grandfather, James Liddell, had a brother John who was a Wine and Spirit Merchant in Springburn district of Glasgow. He died in 1873 (Cause of death was "paralysis through drink").? This James may?have been his son/nephew/cousin but can't find any connection as yet. If anyone would like a photograph of this flagon please get in touch. My gt-gt-grandfather married Barbara Paterson, so there are lots of Barbara Liddells in our family!
