    3. Hi Andrew, I have a feeling we have made contact before, is this correct? James Donaldson Liddell has been extensively researched by his gg grandson Ray Liddell who lives in New Zealand, are you aware of this chap and do you know him? James Donaldson Liddell was born in Alloa I believe in either 1808 or 1807, our James Liddell, my gg grandfather was born in Alva in 1808 and his father was shown in the Alva Church Register as James Liddle and the mother was Isabella/Isabel Drysdale. At this stage we have no idea what happened to James Liddle the father or where he came from, I suspect he is related to James Donaldson Liddell but, no proof! Isabella/Isabel Drysdale and her son James Liddell came out to Australia in the 1820s, no firm date here just a family letter that stated that Grandmother Liddell came out to Australia in the 1820s. Some of her siblings also came out but I am not sure they all came out at the same time. An interesting item surfaced in my research and that was the fact that Isabella was a partner with James Donaldson Liddell in owning a ship. This to me indicates that there has to be some sort of familial connection between the two families, it is too much to be a coincidence. Our James died on the Araluen goldfields at Braidwood, NSW in 1860, his mother Isabella/Isabel had already died in Sydney in 1845. It is a shame you are not a Liddell, we have been trying to get one of the James Donaldson Liddell descendants to have his DNA tested to see if there is a match between the two families, so far no luck.{;-( It would help no end to narrow down our research to find where our James Liddle was born and died if there was a proven connection between the two families. Do you know of any Liddell male descendants of James Donaldson Liddell who would be prepared to have a DNA test to see if there is a connection? Regards, Colin Liddell in a cool Brisbane. ----- Original Message ----- From: andrew To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, January 01, 2003 2:23 AM Subject: Re: [LIDDELL] Re: Liddells in Tasmania Hi June , My name is Andrew Buttfield and I have been researching my mother's family of Liddell's who we believe came from the Stirling area of Scotland , I will look into our reams of names etc to see if there is a connection , our James had a brother named John , not that it was an uncommon chritian name of the times . We are descended from a James Donaldson Liddell who married in 1828 1830 in Sydney to Abigail Desmond { a convict }. Do you know if you are connected to him ? James had a brother who remained in Scotland who married a Marion Henderson is that a connection ?. Regards, Andrew , Perth, Western Australia. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alastair & June Henderson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 14, 2006 8:20 PM Subject: [LIDDELL] Re: Liddells in Tasmania > Does any lister relate to the following? > > "The lady Egidia" arriving in Tasmania on 19th April 1862 bought out by > the St Andrews Immigration Society and on board were: > > Liddell * > Catherine > 4 > Stirling > > > Liddell * > John > 29 > Stirling > Farm Servant > > Liddell * > Margaret > 27 > Stirling > Farm Servant > > Liddell * > Mary > 7 > Stirling > > > Liddle > William > 22 > Alva > Ploughman > > > > * denotes family members. > > I found this whilst looking for Liddells from Alva and wondered if there > was any family connection. > Regards, > June > > > ============================== > Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the > areas they lived.
