That's the first time I've seen anyone reading LDS records showing James/1712 dead at 2 or 3. Well, if correct that just confirms that James Tompson Liddell and his daughter used LDS records and not any public records to write their opus. I don't think they used ANY actual records other than just what people told them and in the doing not mentioning kin they didn't like in that family and so forth. I know that this happened with my own family--nearly everyone born to a second wife after the first one died were left out by a wife of the first set of Liddell brothers. And from what I picked up on over the weekend, the very same thing is happening again some 50 years later. I sure wish "genealogists" would check with more than one source when they are using nothing but family records and not at all consulting the public ones. The location you cite doesn't surprise me. I've seen this before but never traced it out on a map. I do know there were some related Liddells on the south back of the Forth of Firth about then. And if you trace THAT out on a map, it is about 1.5-days' ride north of Liddesdale on the old "Low Road". --Remember that song: "Oh, you take the Low Road and I'll take the High Road and I'll be in Scotland before ye..."? Well, Airth is less than a day's ride from the Liddells I mentioned about on the F of F. (Scotland is such a tiny place. Total distance from Liddesdale to Airth was probably about 80 miles--a bit more than two-days' ride, I would guess.)
