Hi Can anyone help me with the parentage of Andrew Liddell born 1842 Paisley, Scotland and who married Ada Jane Staples in New Zealand. Andrew died in Winton, Southland, New Zealand in 1942. Some records show his father as being "john" but not sure how accurate this is. Also any info on his siblings would be helpful. Many thanks Margaret Liddell.
Sorry Margaret I can't help. Officers of the Continental and U.S. Navy and Marine Corps http://www.history.navy.mil/books/callahan/index.htm There's a Liddell under "US Navy Officers (1798-1900)." I didn't check any of the other categories on the page. Liddell, James F., Acting Third Assistant Engineer, 4 September, 1863. Hello Liddell family, I am looking for the ancestors of my great-grandfather, James Liddell. It appears he was born about 1846 in Scotland. He married an Ann Towers 1868 in Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Ann was born 1840 in Tingwall, Shetland, Scotland. A child, David James, was born to them in 1869 in Scotland. The family then moved to Ontario, Canada between 1869 and 1871. The 1881 Canadian census shows James, Ann and five of their children living in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada. Two more children were born to them subsequently, the last of which was my father's mother, Margaret Liddell, b. 22 Jun 1886. By 1900 the family was living in Los Angeles, California. Ann's parents were David Towers and Mary Linklater, both born in the Orkney Isles, Scotland. Both died in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Richard Davison [email protected]

Aaah...I found my James Liddell after many years of searching with very little to go on, but am still seeking any further information. On Sunday, Oct. 09, 1831, James LIDDELL and Jane WILLIS d/o John WILLIS were married by the Rev. Mr. Somerville in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada. On Feb 01. 1889, James H. LIDDELL, died at his residence on Baur St., Halifax, N.S. at the age of 84. Mr Liddell resided for some years in Bathurst, N.B. for some years before returning to Halifax where he held many important positions. No information on whether his wife survived him or if they had any family James may have been a son of John LIDDELL and may have had a sister, Elizabeth, 3rd d/o John LIDDELL of Halifax who married Jas. S. Clift, merchant of Saint John's, NFLD on Aug. 24, 1842 . Also a sister, Jane HAYLES, w/o Sir Hugh HAYLES, late Chief Justice of NFLD and daughter of John LIDDELL of Halifax, who died in Halifax, N.S. on Jan 17, 1886. Did any of your LIDDELLs venture to Canada around the turn of the century or do any of these names sound familiar? Does anyone have any knowledge/information of Daniel LEDDEL who married Susanna SATTERLY 5August 1806 in Bovey Tracey, Devon. Daniel was born in Worcester but I don't know where but possibly around the Bromsgrove area. -- Gary in Sunny Queensland, Australia. www.sunzine.net/rockhampton Genealogy Page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~liddellfamily/
