I'm having a heck of time finding out exactly when they arrived in the states and who came over with James. He had two or three brothers (John, Moses, and possibly Thomas) and wife Esther Porter. Liddell, known as Bill, died Monday in Ardmore. Funeral services are today at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. He was born Nov. 1, 1897, in Marietta, Indian Territory. On July 4, 1916, he joined the Oklahoma Militia. He served with General Pershing on the Mexican border. Following his militia service with Pershing, he was called into the regular army. Subsequently he served with the 36th Infantry Division in France during World War I. He was one of the state's few remaining veterans of World War I and the last known survivor of the original Oklahoma National Guard. The subject of countless newspaper and television stories, Liddell was proud of his military service, professing a strong love for his country. He was also proud of the fact that his two sons, Billy V., Healdton, and Jimmy H., Oklahoma City, followed in his footsteps, each serving in the army. Liddell had been a resident of the Healdton community since 1922 when he went to work in the oil fields. He met his future wife, Altena Harbison, in Healdton. They were married in 1924.

Hi All, Putting in my Liddell's in Nova Scotia with the hope of a connection - John LIDDELL 1777, Airth, Scotland - Abt 1856, New Glasgow, NS. Son of James Liddell & Margaret GLEN. married Harriett CLEAVELAND 1783-Bef 1856, d/o John CLEAVELAND, Merchant, NS & Elizabeth B BUSHNELL. John & Harriett LIDDELL had abt 15 children. 1. James Hill LIDDELL b.1805, m./ 1831, Jane WILLIS. Don't know if they had any children. 2. Margaret LIDDELL 1807-1832, m 1830, Edward ROACH - Margaret, Bessie, John, Robert. 3. Harriett 1808-1835, m1831, William Henry DAVIS. Don't know if she had any children. 4. Elizabeth LIDDELL 1810-1847, m1842, James Shannon CLIFT, Merchant, of Newfoundland. Had at least 1 child - John Shannon CLIFT b. 1846. 5. Mary Camillia LIDDELL 1811-1840, m.1835, Robert WALLACE. Had 3 children - no names known. 6. Jean LIDDELL 1813- aft 1881, m1842, Hugh William HOYLES, barrister. Later Sir Hugh William HOYLES & Prime Minister of Newfoundland 1861-1865. I have a deed of Elizabeth Liddell, widow and lawful exccutrix of Moses Liddell, dec'c selling to Elijah Nicholson 201 ac. on Devil's Fork of Great Generostee Creek of the Savanah River.. Apparently Moses bought the land in 1792 and the sale to Elijah Nicolson was in 1804, witnessed by John Russell. Then in 1809 Elizabeth Liddle, widow, Elizabeth Barran, Moses Liddle, James Liddle, Ester Davis, Esbel Liddle, Jenny Liddle all legatees of Estate of Moses Liddle, dec'd all of Pendleton District, except Elizabeth Barran of Murry Co.,Tenn, to Martha Russell, widow and sole legatee of John Russell dec'd 200 acres on Devil's Creek, branch of Big Generostee, waters of Savannah River, part of 640 ac. orgiginally granted to James Blythe, 16/7/1784. Dated 18 Sept. 1809. Witnessed by James Morrow, Sr, Abel Skelton, Jacob Clearman, James Russell. Also signed by Jane Lesly, Daniel L! iddle with other heirs. Rec. 5/25/1820. Then in 1802 John Russell bgt. 100 acres on 12 Mile River and Moses Liddell was a witness. This Moses Liddell is obviously the son of the above Moses Liddell, dec'd . I'm trying to see if there was a connection between the Liddells thru a marriage etc. or just a neighbor witnessing whatever. Thanks for your reply. L. Brown

Ron, Yes, there is a connection, but it is through my mother's side, so does not link to the Liddell's until recent times. I don't think this is what they were looking for. Since I sent that message, I have found a John Russell Liddell, but I don't have a link into our family line. It's sketchy info, but I have David Liddell m Christina Russell (both born Scotland) with children: William G Liddell, Christina A Liddell, and John Russell Liddell (b 11-16-1848). John Russell Liddell m Mary H Rickey who had children: John R Liddell and Roy H Liddell. That's all I have. Gary, Is there some connection between this Russell family and the Liddell family. I don't recall running across the Russells before.
