I'm a Lewis descended from probably Samuel of South Carolina. I'm part of the research group as malewis who responded to your post on Dec 13. My group on the Lewis Surname Project is group 09, which we strongly suspect is linked genetically to Group 43. Given names that are known, or suspected to be, in our line from SC through GA are: John, Samuel, Azariah, Isaac, Benjamin, Larkin, Pleasant, Charles, Joseph, Jeremiah, Crawford, Harvey, James. These correspond with the names you listed. We have probable brothers Samuel, Azariah, Isaac and Benjamin in Edgefield County SC, with a possible father of John. The timeframe runs from about 1773 to 1800 in Edgefield, although Benjamin's line probably stayed there. A group of us has traced our line solidly back to Henry County GA in the 1820s and 1830s. Going back further as been difficult. We strongly suspect, through genetics, that we were in Edgefield and the four brothers listed above our members of our family. My gggrandfather, Zerah Lewis, said in the 1880 census that his father was born in NJ and his mother in VA. We strongly suspect Samuel was his father. We have not conclusively been able to connect our family group to the Edgefield Lewises, yet, but we have genetic and circumstantial evidence that this is the case. We are struggling to definitively link our line with the NJ line, and this could be a missing link. I am anxious to hear from you and to determine if our Lewis families are related and where they connect. This is very promising for our line.
