    1. [LEWIS] Lewis Family History Bible On E-Bay
    2. Hayes Philip L
    3. Don't know if this can help anybody, but I was alerted to a family bible on ebay through a saved search (Im looking for a miracle). The pictures show the names of several Lewis (none of them mine). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400037578635&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 "Up for auction is a really neat antique 1800's Leather Bound Family Bible from the Lewis Family. What's really special about this family is that my friend on ebay, "1fabulousfind" had the Dag. Photo Of Captain Lewis, (that auction is already closed). This bible came from the same estate sale as that photo and this bible is from his family and in the photo ablum section at the back is a CDV Photo of a much older version of Captain Lewis. Printed inside is; "The Holy Bible", "With The Apocrypha, Psalms In Metre, and Marginal References And Readings", "To Which are Added A Pictorial HIstory of the Books of the Bible, by Rev. Washington B. Erben, Rector of the Church of the Redeemer, Philadelphia, and the Illustrated Comprehensive Dictionary Of The Bible, by Rev. Alfred Nevin, D.D., LLD. .......With Several Hundred Engravings, On Wood and Steel, Philadelphia; John E. Potter and Company, No. 617 Sansom Street. There are some lovely printed engravings that were drawn by the famous french artist, Gustav Dore. Tucked inside the bible was a family Register from Charles Henry Lewis born 1819 in East Town, NY, and is wife, Maria Lewis born 1821 in New Haven, NY. It also lists their five children, date, and place of birth and sadly, four have their dates and city where they died as young children. Their only surviving child was Charles Henry Lewis, born in 1842, in Milwaukee. Inside the bible, is a beautiful, colorful "Family Record" engraving, where the other Lewis Family members continued their family history. The very back of the bible has a section for family portraits and there are some cdv's and tintypes. There is wear to the outer cover, i.e. the leather is worn in spots but the gold gilded lettering is nice on the front cover and spine. The spine is fairly tight and all the pages are firmly attached. There is some minor wear/tattering to some of the pages but overall, it's in very nice condition for it's age with no big tears, no taped or missing pages and there are no odors, etc. It measures; 12-1/2" x 10" x just under 2-3/4"." Hope it helps someone. Philip L. Hayes phil@hayesfamily.us http://www.hayesfamily.us Monroe, CT USA "Genealogy is where you confuse the dead and irritate the living."
