Just wanted to let people know my computer got 4 very bad Trojan viruses when I went to the Lewis Project DNA site. I can't say for sure this is where the viruses came from but it all happened right after I went to the site and my virus checker came up with a series of about 6 warnings. I tried to close the site but it wouldn't let me. I know that Janet Crain, who manages this site, said she was having computer problems that I believe involved a virus. The viruses disabled my internet access and then hung up the three items I had open on my computer so that nothing would close. It attacked my operating system and our virus protector couldn't quarantine or delete the four files. In fact the files couldn't be found on the system but their damage was done. After we shut the computer down it wouldn't start. When my husband (my personal tech guy) finally got it to start up he got the blue screen of death. Yes, we have an up to date anti-virus program and thankfully he had a back-up of my operating system. It took him 7 hours of work to fix the computer but are we glad he didn't have to start everything from scratch. I hope the site can be fixed and cleaned. I am now afraid to go there and we just got our Lewis line DNA done. This is based at Family Tree DNA based in Houston. Since Janet Crain is Adm over the Lewis Project I am sure she is working with FTDNA personnel to get this corrected. I have tested there too on several of my lines. They take this very seriously so I would think they are working on it. I am on the genealogy-dna mailing list. I will report it there too.
