General Grant had spent some time in Humbolut. I believe there was a Fort at Humbolut to support the distribution of Army supplies. General Grant was a supply officer before the Civil War. William T Sherman was also a supply officer under Col A.C. Myers. His family was located in San Francisco before the Civil War. Around 1850, he quit the army and worked for Lucas and Turner Bank in San Francisco to support the gold fields at Yuba City.
