Eva Looking for Peter Lewis (Lewes) 1700 - Lewes, Delaware ----- Original Message ---- From: Stan McConnell <stanmcc@ix.netcom.com> To: lewis@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, April 18, 2009 1:09:35 AM Subject: Re: [LEWIS] translation (Tammy) LEWIS Digest, Vol 4, Issue 112] I have similar problems with "automatic translation" programs, and rarely use them, for that reason.  The problem is that they do not translate, they transliterate - i.e., they do a word-for-word translation, which rarely renders the desired result.  The classic example from years back. (perhaps apocryphal) was "out of sight, out of mind", which, after a round trip through an English->Russian->English translation came back as "blind, insane".
