    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cynthia_nottingham Surnames: Lewis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/11783.7.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I couldn't find a "Jersey Lewis" but I did find this mention of a Fielding Lewis: During this periond (1770 - 1790), there are other recordsof a John Lewis in this same area of Hampshire County, West Virginia. There is another John Lewis who purchased land on May 8, 1771 from Samuel Pritchard and requested the deed be made to his son Thomas Lewis on the Lost River of Capacon on "Cacapeon." Later, on AUgust 16th 1787 a John Lewis, son of Fielding Lewis, dec'd, sold land on Patterson Creek to George Miller, through James Mercer, a prominent and very wealthy lawyer of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Neither of these men are connected with the Lewis family who had their origins at "Cherry Point" in Northumberland County, Virigina. -- This paragraph in the book is in reference to Sage's "Early Records of Hampshire County" page 34 -- you might want to take a look at these records if you think this migh tbe the right Fielding Lewis.
