Author: donmatson63 Surnames: Lewis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/12077/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have been browing around on the internet looking at what is on there about my branch of Lewis' from Monmouthshire, Wales to New Kent Co.,Va. & have noticed some names don't match what I have from what I thought was the latest & most accurate version of the lineage which is the following: Richard ap Lewis of Llangattock, Crickhowell, Brecknockshire, Wales who died 1627/28 & married Nest, who had a son Lewis ap Prichard/Richard of St. Telios Parish, Lantilio Pertholey, Monmouthshire, Wales who married Catherine Morgan who had a son John Lewis bapt. 2/22/1591/92 St.Telios Church, who married 1st 2/3/1610 at St. Telios Church to Johane Lewis, 2nd on 11/2/1630 same place to Catherine Philip & they emigrated to King & Queen Co.,Va. ca. 1653 where he died 8/21/1657. He & Catherine had John Lewis bapt. 12/15/1633 St. Telios Church, Wales, married ca. 1665 Gloucester Co.,Va. to Isabella Miller & he died ca. 1689/90 in Gloucester Co.,Va. & they had about 15 children. The above was taken from Grace M. Moses' book "The Welsh Lineage of John Lewis 1592-1657, Emigrant to Gloucester, Va., written in 1983. Is this version no longer accurate? I see versions which say that John Lewis 1592-94-1657, married to a Lydia, but cannot find any proof of this. There are so many discrepanies out there & I don't know who to believe any more.
