This applies to those who have already been tested in the HV1 section of the mtDNA: Due to the unmatched growth of our database, many customers are finding genealogically significant connections through mtDNA. It is often more difficult to make these connections because surnames change in each generation along the maternal line and because mtDNA mutates more slowly. However, testing an additional region of the mtDNA can significantly increase a person’s chances of finding the genealogically significant match he or she has been looking for, and help to narrow down the maternal lineage’s potential countries of origin. To support our customers’ effort to find these connections, Family Tree DNA is offering a sale on the mtDNA Refine upgrade, which tests the HVR2 region of mtDNA, from May 27th through June 5th. No new kit is necessary as your DNA is already stored at our testing facility. mtDNA Refine Standard Price: $75 Your Price: $59 This upgrade may be helpful if: a.. You are searching for connections in your family tree to extend your genealogy b.. You already have low resolution mtDNA matches This upgrade will not change your haplogroup assignment. Samples with no matches would not benefit from this upgrade at this time, although as the database grows and matches are found the mtDNA Refine can help narrow down how closely related the matches are. Customers interested in upgrading instead to the mtDNA full sequence test (Mega) should contact us at info@familytreedna.com. There is no need to contact our staff to receive this upgrade pricing; this special price will be adjusted in the system accordingly. You can find your discounted price listed under the "SPECIAL OFFER" link on your Family Tree DNA personal page. As always, we appreciate your continued support. Family Tree DNA
Can someone help me which would be the best test. I'm going to buy it and have my brother or uncle tested. I'll be seeing one or both next month. Thanks in advance. This one is no longer on sale. But a very good one for new participants tests both the mtDNA HV1 and 37 markers on the Y chromosome for $119. Usually $248. Remember the Y chromosome follows the paternal line and mtDNA follows the maternal line. Thanks I new it wasn't on sale anymore. I just saved the email so I wouldn't forget where to order. So the basic one is a good one to get started. I did some testing on the maternal through national geographic but I have no idea if I can use those results or even where those results are. Thanks.
