Grandson of JAMES T. LEWIS (9 Aug 1735 - 1 Sept. 1835 - Cutshin Creek, KY) Martin Lewis born November 23,1794 Ashe Co.,NC came to KY with his parents. About 1820 he left KY on Log Raft with friends and journeyed to Ohio River. There he and his friends entered Indiana near or at present day MADISON, INDIANA. Martin Lewis records are incomplete since he left KY. He may have settled forever. Family believe he stayed in Boone County,Indiana. Descents have been discovered by Genealogist research. His death in a Will probated date of 1847. Land Records destroyed by fire 11 Oct. 1856. Some Deeds are found Crawfordsville Land District: dated 22 Oct. 1833 - BOOK 2 - SE SE Sec. 3-17N-2E = 40 acres; 23 March 1835 - BOOK 2 NE SE - sec 3-17N-2E = 40 Acres; " " " - BOOK 2 W/2NW/4 - sec 2-17N-2E = 36 acres; " " " - BOOK 2 NE/4 SE/4- sec 3-17N-2E = 40 acres; " " " - BOOK 2 E/2 NE/4 - sec 10 -17N-2E = 80 acres. It appears he married TWICE - First to a Sarah Johns in year 1830 whom may have had 3 girl siblings before her death 1834. Children's Blood Father not proved. Could have been Martin. No proven exact date of DEATH for Sarah, family descents belief is she died in late 1834 Boone Co., Indiana. Then on 18 April 1835 Martin at age 35 married in Clinton Co., Indiana, to marriage with Ms. DRUSILLA/Drucilla DENT b. abt 1814 - d. 1908 Boone Co., IN at age 94. Daughter of Walter Dent. Martin had become one of the first Land owners in Boone Co., Indiana. There are 3 LEWIS children claimed: births from 1831 to 1834. Names: Lucinda Lewis 1831; Rachel Jane Lewis 1832; Sarah Ann Lewis 1834 IN. Other proven claims are 4 more children by MARTIN 1794 NC and new wife-Drucilla being born from Dec. 28, 1836 thru year 1845. (one source "Broderbund WFT Vol.6,Ed.1,tree#1229 27 June 1998)). LAND DEEDS by MARTIN LEWIS INCLUDE: 80 acres - dated 8 Feb. 1831 - BOOK #413, 40 acres - dated 16 Sept. 1834 - BOOK #145, 40 acres - dated 20 March 1837 - BOOK #358. *** COYVILLE, KANSAS *** CHILD #4 - Child #1 by Drucilla and Martin: Descent Relations are available from this child: Wm. Lankston Lewis b. 28 Dec 1836 Boone Co,Indiana - d. 11 Nov 1904 in Coyville,Wilson Co.,Kansas & who md. Emily Catherine Palmer b.12 Jan 1840 Jamestown, in Boone Co,Indiana- She d. 24 April 1920 in Coyville,Wilson Co,Kansas. MARTIN 1794NC -1847IN & DRUCILLA 1814-1908IN, They have 4 children descents by Martin. #1 - Wm. Lankson Lewis 1836 IN; #2 - JOHN N Lewis Jan. 1840 IN; Died age 8 - 11 Jun 1848 IN.; #3 - Margaret Jane Lewis 1843 IN; #4 - ALBERT N Lewis 1845 IN - 2 July 1923 Advance, Indiana; Note: Drucilla was 62 yrs in 1880 Census INDIANA. She also found in 1895 Census of living with son William L & Emily Catherine Palmer Lewis. Drucilla died age 94 in 1908. In a late 1890-1900 census a female born 1852 named CHARLOTTE Lewis was living with Drucilla Lewis. (May have been a Lewis grandaughter or a Niece.)
