Author: biglou1221 Surnames: Lewis, Walker Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/13594/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Have some trouble locating my 3 great Grandfather. This is mostly information that passed to me by my grandfather and his brother, mixed with some stuff I've found. Frank Lewis and his brother were cowboys living in what would eventually become Avon, Eagle County Colorado but decided they were going to head to Texas (sometime prior to 1884, as my GGgrandfather was born in 1884 in Texas, and Avon didn't even become a township until 1884). On the way, Frank's brother rode his mule into a well and died, so Frank pushed on and eventually landed in Hamilton County, Texas. That's the story I was told, here's some of what I have evidence to suggest: Frank H(A?) Lewis married Mary Jane Walker and they had William (Willie) Walker Lewis. That is literally all the information I have for that guy. My 2nd Great grandfather, Willie Walker Lewis, was born in Hamilton County, Texas in 1884. Death Certificate lists his father as F H (or is could be a crazy looking A) Lewis, and his mother as Mary Jane Walker. Death certificate was filled out by his wife, Ella, so I feel like that is pretty reliable information, although I don't lend much credence to the birth places listed for mother and father (ok and miss, respectively) Hamilton County birth records for that time period are seemingly not available due to 2 separate fires at the courthouse, and vital records weren't mandated in Texas until 1903 anyway. Willie eventually moved to Elgin, Texas (evidence suggests around 1905) and then further North into Grayson County, Texas and then right across the river into Oklahoma.
