    1. [LEWIS] DNA and genealogy - cost, groups?
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I only have 2 surnames on my family-tree which I would consider buying a DNA test for: LEWIS, KERR / CARR. Those are both surnames which go back to 1800 in England or Ireland - and no further back. * With the LEWIS name, I have one male relative I might be able to talk into taking the test. But, I would have to pay for it. (I also have a male "distant cousin" who might be talked into it.) To start this new year right, I've decided to order a "KERR DNA test." I have a male cousin who I'm going to contact, and I have a male "distant cousin" I'm mailing a letter to on Monday. I've heard from other researchers who want to find out if I'm connected to them, and they are willing to help with the cost. I'd like to know whether there is a "LEWIS DNA genealogy group" which is a support group for this surname. I went to this web site and, on quick look, I don't see a way to find out if a group is there. https://www.familytreedna.com/Default.aspx?c=1 As I've said before, my great-grandfather was born in 1859 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, and his father, John LEWIS, was born there, also. But, John's father, Richard LEWIS, was born ~1803 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. There are several couples there ~1800 who are possible parents. But, I don't know anything about them. And, I don't know if that family was always in County Shropshire. Betty (near Lowell, MA) * On both sides of my family-tree, I have ancestors who left Ireland or England during the 1800's and went to Canada, first. The majority of my ancestors can be traced back to the 1600's in the MA Bay Colony. And I stop there. But, the 1800's people I would very much like to get back to at least 1700. Remember to check the archives of all the Lists and Boards for your surnames and place-names. And, please remember to check the on-line auctions for for your surnames and place-names.
