On the ship with him were 3 LEWIS girls, who were not related to him. John "Stanley" LEWIS had his grandfather from Co. Shropshire, England, and I can't take him back further. I know that is close to Wales. After 10 yrs., I've never been able to find out what happened to the 3 LEWIS girls who traveled with Stanley. But, during those 1870's, all the children arriving in Halifax went to different families and different counties. * On the other side of my family-tree is a "KERR / HENDERSON family-group" which left Co. Sligo, Ireland, in 1820's to migrate to Prov. of Quebec. So, I know there were early arrivals in Canada from Ireland and Scotland, etc. In Canada, the thousands of children arriving became known as "British Home Children" (1860-1940's). "Stanley" and his BHC wife migrated to Stoneham, MA, in 1881. My KERR / HENDERSON ancestors migrated from P.Q., Canada, to Everett and Malden, MA, during the 1870's. As my "Stanley" LEWIS was an only child, I don't know of other LEWIS's in MA from 1880 to 1920's, etc. But, he did leave many relatives back in Liverpool. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (on Lists and Boards for 14 yrs.; now an Admin for 11 Lists and 5 Boards, including some for CAN - USA migration ) * "Stanley" married Mary Elizabeth CORKILL (b1860 Liverpool), and she had 4, younger siblings traveling with her. They were separated, and I think the 3 sisters remained in the Halifax / Truro area. Their younger brothers, 5 and 3 when arriving, went to different counties. So, by the 1890's, many families had taken in a "child migrant." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Glenna, Rootsweb said that they were working on a solution to ban the spammer permanently. photo66666 has not posted to the LEWIS Surname Board in approximately the last 24 hours, so, I am hoping Rootsweb did what they said they would do. It has taken several years to get to this point with that user. I think once he spammed two different message boards with upwards of 80 messages each all at once, Rootsweb figured they had to take meaningful action. Time will tell. If the user joins under a different username, ISP, we may have to go through it all over again. The only piece of advise I can give you is be vigilant when it comes to reporting the problem to Rootsweb and do nothing to antagonize the situation. photo66666 has tried on numerous occasions to draw me into a he said/she said confrontation. I ignore him, state my business, perform my duties and deal directly with Rootsweb, not the user. I sure hope he is history. :) Tammy On Thu, 13 Nov 2014, Glenna Kinard via wrote: > Tammy, > > Interesting that Rootsweb left the solution to you.....remove the spammer's > (photo66666) emails....but why didn't Rootsweb offer to block this person? > I am an administrator for another board and I'd like to know how to handle > this if it happens to my board. Tammy, Interesting that Rootsweb left the solution to you.....remove the spammer's (photo66666) emails....but why didn't Rootsweb offer to block this person? Did I miss anyone? Pat Lowry put my name in the paper because of a General George Rogers Clark record number 6287-450-452 dated July 21 1780 that the Gov of Virginia Thomas Jefferson paid Jacob Myers 1765 pounds for 7 boats built in Pittsburgh. Saint Elizabeth Seton was a direct neighbor to Alexander Hamilton who's granddaughter, Elizabeth Hamilton, married General Harry Hallack who was an aide to Secretary of War Edwin M Stanton who married Pittsburgh Socialite Ellen Hutchison. Her father, Pittsburgh shipper Lewis Hutchison, was said to be a direct descendent of Meriwether Lewis by writer Benjamin P Thomas in his book STANTON. It's on page 68 a few lines down. The family of Secretary of State William H Seward thinks that could be correct. William H Seward's grandson, Auburn Banker William H Seward III, married Anna Denny Myers from Pittsburgh. Anna Denny Myers was related to Lt Gov of NY William H Seehan of Buffalo NY. Linda Mellon Scaife of Humbolt California, who kept records on boat builder Jacob Myers, said her family was related to Jacob Myers who had a contract from Victor Hugo's father who worked for the King of Spain to build houses and Catholic Churchs in New Madrid. Some of the family moved to Humbolt California near a Murphy lumberyard of Simon J Murphy Sr and family. This all seems to focus in the 1950's around the Mozart Saving and Loan in the West End owned by a group of building families that built Canevin High School and was also connected to Catholic Bishop Fulton J Sheen of Rochester NY plus a few taverns here and there in the West End. There is several different substories that go with this from Linda Mellon Scaife's notes on the Catholic French Myers family from Pittsburgh that match John Esten Cooke's notes on Hunter John Myers and his Catholic actress daughter who attended Catholic High School named Lindin Hall near actress Belle Boyd's museum in Martinsburg. The school was staffed by teachers from Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsburg MD. John Esten Cooke's father, General Phillip St Georges Cooke, employed Sacajawea's son as an Indian Guide in the Morman Division at Nauvoo Ill and Fort Madison Iowa located across the river. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/13583/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This was printed Aug 29 2008 on the Lewis and Clark boat built in Pittsburgh. Here are the names in the article Pat Lowey the writer, Lawrence Myers, that is me. Then Meriwether Lewis, Dan Rooney, Dr David Halaas, David L Lawrence, Thomas Jefferson, Bill Brunot, Dr Felix Brunot, General Lafayette, William Clark, Jacob Myers, Andrew Masich, John Heinz. That record was good enough to make Jacob Myers on the short list for building the Lewis and Clark boat in Pittsburgh since William Clark was the good general's brother. The only people missing are the people who provided the wood. So I am looking for any relatives of the above families including the Lumber Murphy relatives of Simon J Murphy Sr who owned lumber yards all over the county. His family also purchased the Washington home of Claymont full of books owned by George Washington. His granddaughter, Ellse Murphy, gave the books to Thornton Perry who married actor Randolph Scott's sister. Randolph Scott married Marion Dupont who owned James Madison's home. Meriwether Lewis's great uncle, Fielding Lewis, married Betty Washington who was the sister of George Washington who owned the books at Claymont. This leads to Fort Madson in Iowa and Nauvoo Ill across the river and a Catholic Girls School called St Marys built on top of the burned Mormon Temple staffed with nuns from Pittsburgh supplied by Bishop Canevin. Simon J Murphy Sr., who was the founder of Whitter California with a very large lumber yard in Detroit, also financed Henry Ford and Thomas Edison who both worked together for the Westinghouse Steam Engine Company of Detroit. This is in the book titled FORD by Robert Lacey. Thomas Edison's wife was Mina Miller and her father, Lewis Miller, was in business with Methodist Bishop John Heyl Vincent in Chautauqua NY. Bishop Vincent was a cousin of Catholic Bishop Stephen Vincent Ryan of Buffalo NY. Bishop Ryans brother was Union Major James Felix Ryan of Mckeesport who was married to Mary McCloskey who was the sister of Catholic Bishop William McCloskey of Louisville KY and his brother Cardinal John McCloskey of Albany NY. Mina Millers brother, Teddy W Miller, was killed in Cuba under the command of Col Teddy Roosevelt who was a cousin of Catholic Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley who was a close friend of Cardinal John McCloskey.
