Hello, During all of the 1950's, etc., I went to school with a boy. We shared the same last name. I knew him on and off until the 1990's, mostly through our high-school reunions. He was never interested in his family-tree. I've been researching my family-tree for 20 yrs., but I couldn't try to find out if this boy and I were "distantly related." I just found out this .man. just "passed." Because of his obituary, I now know his father's first name, and his grandfather had the same first name. So, I'm going to try to find out about his ancestors. We grew up in Arlington, MA, and I found out there was a Horace E. LEWIS in Arlington ~1900. I'd like to find out if anyone is researching him. This is a census page I just found at www.familysearch.org | Name: | Horace A Lewis | | Event Type: | Census | | Event Year: | 1900 | | Event Place: | Arlington town (northwest part), Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States | | Gender: | Male | | Age: | 22 | | Marital Status: | Single | | Race: | White | | Race (Original): | W | | Relationship to Head of Household: | Son | | Relationship to Head of Household (Original): | Son | | Birth Date: | Jul 1878 | | Birthplace: | Massachusetts | | Father's Birthplace: | Massachusetts | | Mother's Birthplace: | Massachusetts | | Household | Role | Gender | Age | Birthplace | | Josephine T Lewis | Head | F | 50 | Massachusetts | | Ida F Lewis | Daughter | F | 11 | Massachusetts | | Horace A Lewis | Son | M | 22 | Massachusetts | | Edward C Lewis | Son | M | 20 | Massachusetts | | George F Reed | Boarder | M | 39 | New Hampshire | District: 660 , Sheet Number and Letter: 21A , Household ID: 366 , Line Number: 14 , Betty (near Lowell, MA) List Administrator

And, I knew him through our high-school reunions, etc. When I met him in the 1990's, he said he was not interested in that part of his family-tree. I've been researching my family-tree for 20 yrs., and I know that my LEWIS great-grandparents were born ~1860 in Liverpool, England. They were sent to Canada as teens ~1874. They married in Nova Scotia in 1879, and migrated to MA in 1881. I know that a great many LEWIS' were descended from the LEWIS families of 1600's New England. I've wanted to find out if my friend was "distantly related" to me for a long time. But, it wasn't until this month that I found out what his father's and grandfather's first name were. That is because my friend just "passed." I've tried looking on-line and surprisingly there were several men, named Horace LEWIS in the records. I believe the grandfather was Horace E. LEWIS, born in 1870's. He seems to have lived in Arlington, MA, or at least in Greater Boston, MA. I was wondering if anyone knew of this family, and knew of their family-tree. I'm finding out because my long-time friend just passed. His parents were Horace O. and Ida LEWIS from Arlington, MA. And, I believe Horace's father's name was also Horace. So, this might be the family you are looking for. Since we shared a last name growing up, I've always wondered whether we were "distantly related." I'm excited that I have a new second cousin. My five brothers and sisters will be quite pleased as well. I would love to connect with any Lewis group to share information. As a side note, I submitted my DNA and I now have it back. My tree shows that 34-year old Francis Ward Lewis married 17-year old Maria Emigdia Ramona Guevara in Santa Barbara in 1850. I see this on your tree as well. Interestingly, I have no Mexican DNA which is where I assume Maria came from (her family does). I'd like to know more about this. I'm 96% European (50% Ireland, 25% Western European and 16% England). The remaining 3% is Western Asia and 1% American Indian. I'd sure like to know more about the Western Asia DNA. I don't see it thus far in my research. As for the American Indian thing, my father was born in Tampa, Florida and he always told us that we had a great "grandmammy" living back in the swamps. He told us that we were part Seminole. Again, so nice to hear from you. I live in Elk Grove and I'm frequently in the Silicon Valley. I drive down 680 almost every week.
