Lycurgus was a Greek orator, activist and government official. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycurgus_of_Athens. Another Lycurgus was a mythological king who was mentioned in Homer's Iliad. My dad had a cousin (not a Lewis) named Lycurgus who was often called Curg. Audrey, I did too for the longest time. However, I have looked at the 1900 US Federal Census, NC Death Certs 1909-1975, NC Birth Index 1800-2002, an obituary for Waits Dewey CALLOWAY and a certificate of death for Naomi CALLOWAY BENFIELD. They all indicate LEWIS rather than LUSK. I suspect that was another transcription error, too. Tamara G. I had the opportunity to speak to the son of this author about a year ago. He was looking to donate all his father's research to a historical society in eastern Virginia, I do not recall exactly where at the moment. He told me that his parents had spent years tracking down information from many places. He was not very familiar with the information himself, but said there was even more information in his father's files. I hope this helps. If I can find out if the records have been donated I will post the information to this list.
