Author: photo66666 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/11683.1.1.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are several possibilities on who exactly Alexander Lewis might be. What is clear is that he owns the boat patent on the heavy duty keelboat of Lewis and Clark. Alexander Lewis was marred to Mary Smith the cousin of the mother Mary Smith of Robert Fulton. This family was related to General George Patton and General Thomas Stonewall Jackson. He also seems to be related to John Lewis who was related to Davy Crockett and his wife Elizabeth Patton and Meriwether Lewis. The next connection was John Lee the son of Catholic Governor of Maryland Thomas Sim Lee who's family was related to Christopher Gist of Baltimore. Thomas Sim Lee was a cousin of General Robert E Lee. Meriwether Lewis Clark, Robert E Lee and Ormsby McKnight Mitchell went to West Point together. Class of 1829. Ormsby McKnight Mitchell was related to Ann Mitchell the cousin of Alexander Hamilton who was married into the same Livingston family as Robert Fulton. Both Meriwether Lewis Clark and adopted John Baptiste were sons of William Clark of Lewis and Clark. John Baptiste was the real son of Sacajwea. John had two daughters named Barbara and Margaret Myers. Jacob Myers was the boat builder and he was related to the Gist and Gratz families and to Rachael Phillips who was the mother of Uriah Phillips Levy. Both of these people are buried at Monticello. Their grandson Jefferson Monroe Levy and the Levy family owned Monticello for about 100 years. John Lee was the executor of Jacob Myers estate. John Lee was also close friends to General Lafayette and Napoleon who was dealing with Albert Gallatin for the land purchase. Most of these people's relatives are buried together in a graveyard in Pittsburgh including relatives of Napoleon and his brother who originally lived in Baltimore. So yes, it looks like Alexander Lewis was related to Meriwether Lewis. Actually it looks like everyone was related in one way or the other to everyone else.
