I have seen several post about the Birthmark. I have a strawberry colored birthmark on my left arm(from elbow to wrist) I also had an uncle who had a strawberry colored birthmark on most of the left side of his body. It is interesting to know that it is sort of a family trait.My fathers mother was a Lewis. Does this run in all Lewis families or just certain branches? This woman Elizabeth is often called Elizabeth Awbrey, but that is incorrect. The confusion comes in because Elizabeth had a sister named Jane who married John Awbrey, a man old enough to be the girls' father. With a mother called Jane & daughter called Jane, a man much older than his wife, and the fact that John Awbrey was mentioned in mother Jane's will--all that taken together resulted in an incorrect assignment of John & Jane Awbrey as Elizabeth's parents. However, mother Jane Martin's will makes it clear that her daughter Elizabeth is married to a "Pain" and that daughter Jane Johnstone is underage. (John Awbrey appears to be an overseer or something to that effect, and is mentioned in the will. His exact relationship to the family is unclear, but he is obviously not Elizabeth's father.) Assuming that married daughter Elizabeth is older than underage daughter Jane Johnstone, I have also *assumed* that Elizabeth was a Johnstone (rather than a Martin). Mother Jane Martin was evidently married at least twice, earlier to a Johnstone & last to a Martin, who left her a widow. But neither of her husbands is known, nor is her maiden name known. I have both John Payne Jr. and Elizabeth Johnstone Payne dieing c 1698, though I have no reason given as to why I recorded that. The only two children I have for them are "our" William & brother John. The records Shawn sent (below) indicate these realtionships. ---record--- 1. One ancestor was killed by Indians and the newspaper stated it was on the southern frontier of Jefferson County, it's presently Sevier County. Greene County was the parent county of Jefferson, Sevier & Cocke Counties. When looking at records in TN checking neighboring counties have been benificial. Also you may not be aware that Knoxville was the capital of TN before Nashville and there are records there too. Hi Shelley, If I'm reading your post correctly, you have the parents of Irvin D. Lewis being born in Pennsylvania/Scotland. Do you have their names, and where in Pennsylvania? I have some Ohio connections that originated in Pennsylvania and would like to know more if you have it. They're from a Macomb County Cemetery Master Index search (vol.8), and this was the only information given. The Cemetery is on 25 Mile Road, Shelby Township, Macomb County. I assume it is west of "Preston Corners" on 25 Mile Road because the town usually listed is Disco. "S. Lewis", "P. Lewis", "Asahel Lewis son of S. & P. Lewis", "Norris Lewis" (and if you're up to it, any others who look like they might be the same family there). The family moved from New York to Bruce Township, Macomb County between 1850 and 1860. Solomon Lewis and Penlophia [Trude] Lewis. Children: John (stayed in New York), Nathan, Anne, Susannah, Rachel, Norris, Asahel, Elizabeth, Penlophia (Nellie), and Christina. John and Norris fought for the Union, Nathan fought for the Confederacy. John's son later moved from New York to Lenawee County, Michigan. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Harry Fairchild LEWIS which was taken at the Jackson Studio in Waco, Texas. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Harry noted as 6 months old at the time. Looking for parents of Charles kemper lewis born Mar 1875 in Platte Co ,Missouri, Platte City,Pretty much searched all the lewis in that line so wodneing if he might bw listed there. Any shown to be born in Texas? i know of some lewis that went to Texas and one female Lewis of the other Lewis line was in Texas for awhile and than went back to Platte Co., Mo whee she died. I am thinking that both lines of lewis could be related back someways. Iknow she had ties to Kearney,N.J.She had a cousin there but Ican't remember the last name. there is a Julia Lewis buried in my grandparents cemetary plot,we all think it may have been my great grandmother.I also remember a woman named Hattie that use to visit.I don't understand how Emma could be your great grandmother unless we are talking about a different woman but how can she be married to Lewis Sees,my grandfather.
