According to the US Census, they came to America about 1942. Two of their children were born in Wales (Mary and Elizabeth), 2 were born in Pennsylvania where I'm guessing they first settled (William and Joseph) and 2 were born in Jackson County, Ohio (Thomas and Reese). I think there were about 3 other children as Mary, the mother was listed in the 1900 census as having had 9 children with only 3 still living (at this point, I'm not sure which 3, but definitely Joseph [who was in the 1910 census] and Elizabeth [she died in 1911] - Elizabeth was my great x 3 grandmother married to Zoeth Brown, son of Uriah Brown and Catherine Hammond). Any help any one can give me would be greatly appreciated. I recently found this branch of my family. Thank you! Hello! I think you must be a different Michael Lewis that I had been communicating with. For the sake of the discussion here, a couple of questions: What is your brother's name in the Family Tree DNA tests? J How does your brother's DNA test indicate your Lewis line is from Wales? The Lewis Surname DNA project Group #10 does not have a Wales connection. Furthermore, I don't place a lot of stock in the the group designations, as they seem somewhat arbitrary and capricious. I have a 100% match in Group #9 and my test results have never been added to that group. The family group your mention is the descendants of Jacob Lewis, brother of Zephaniah Lewis from Basking Ridge, NJ. I have this line well documented from a 1643 Bible with family inscriptions from this line. Interestingly, the towns line up with your family history, though the times are off set a bit. Surely some connection there, but as yet, we've been unable to puzzle them out! Ok here is the brief bit of information I send out to start with. If you think there is any connection after this, please contact me at sandyburnham@woh.rr.com. I am Sandra K. Burnham (Lewis). I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. I now live in Centerville, a suburb south of Dayton. My father was Robert E. Lewis born 6/7/1918, died 12/24/1967, born and lived and died in Dayton, Ohio. Married Kathryn M. Dice His father was Herman C. Lewis born 6/19/1891, died 1/15/1982. Raised in Mansfield, OH. Later lived and died in Spencer, IN. Married Georgia D. Smith. His father was Fred Lewis born 9/1869. Lived in Sulphur Springs, OH. Born in Shelby, OH. Died in Mansfield, OH. Married Martha (Mattie) Harman. His father was Jacob Lewis born 2/22/1846, died 2/5/1942. Born in Shelby, OH. Died in Shelby, Ohio. Married Amanda Knouse. His father was William Lewis born 5/7/1820, died 10/22/1893. Lived in Carroll, OH. Died in Manhattan, KS. Married Mary Ann Brubaker, then her sister Sarah Jane Brubaker. His father was Joseph Lewis born born around 1794, died 1/6/1873. Born in Westmoreland County, PA. Died in Butler, IN. Married Elizabeth Masters from England. His father supposedly was Jonathan, who some records say came from Germany. My brother has had the Family Tree DNA testing done and our Lewis line is definitely from Wales. So, I dont know about this Jonathan information. Ive seen records that he was born in PA too. This is where Im stuck. Ive never been able to figure out where they were before PA. The Family Tree DNA testing did put us in Group #10, and Ive had email discussions with a Michael Lewis who has some family stuff going on in Westmoreland County, PA too. A lot of near matches, but not really. He thinks our families were related, like cousins or something way back, but we cant prove anything. -----Original Message----- From: lewis-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:lewis-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Llew Llaw Sent: Thursday, July 02, 2009 7:03 PM To: lewis@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [LEWIS] Lewis DNA Data > Are Floyd/Pike counties? Hello, I've mentioned before that I can trace my LEWIS line back to Richard LEWIS, b~1805 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. And, I'm told by researchers in England, that there 3 couples who could have been his parents. I don't have a way to tell which couple. I don't remember seeing any queries / postings about other people descended from Co. Shropshire. IF I decided to talk my brother into doing "DNA," what would we find out? Up until this morning, I could only think of 2 men who would be a LEWIS candidate for DNA tests. The 2nd person is an estranged first-cousin, who I haven't seen since he was a teen, and he is now 60. I don't even know where he lives, probably in NH. Unfortunately, there are at least a dozen Richard LEWIS's in NH right now. But, while reading the Digest this morning, the thought popped into my head that I "found" another descendant of my LEWIS great-grandparents. He also lives in NH. My brother has no interest in genealogy, and the "2nd cousin?" only has a mild interest. In both cases, I would have to pay for the test, which I can't really afford. FYI: I have a stronger interest in the ancestors of my KERR great-grandparents. Their line goes back to ~1800 IRELAND. In this case, I only have one, male KERR cousin, and he is another man with no interest in genealogy. I do have one, living KERR uncle, but he lives on the other side of the country, and has been semi-estranged from the family for 40 years. (There are other descendants of my KERR great-grandparents in New England, but I have no idea where the "males" live.) I don't have a strong interest in my "female line." So, I probably don't have a reason to do the DNA myself. However, the "birth" of my mother's mother is one, large mystery ! She was told by her Adoptive parents that she was a "foundling" in Boston in 1889, with no known birth-mother. As it turns out, the Adoptive parents told her many "lies." So, my "educated guess" is that they were her grandparents. I believe their married daughter in CT had a pregnancy outside of her marriage in the summer of 1888. ~6 yrs. ago I "found" a descendant of the Adoptive mother's mother. For these ancestors, I'm curioius whether a DNA from this lady in CT and myself would show a connection ! (The common ancestor would be nee' Rhoda MANCHESTER of MA and RI. IF my guess is correct, she would have been my gr-gr-gr-grandmother.) Thank you for your time ! Betty (near Lowell, MA) Happy "Canada Day" for some ! Happy "4th" for some ! And, be happy - safely !

We received the following from Mr. Bennett Greenspan today. Please, please take advantage of this excellent pricing since it will not be extended. "Dear Group Administrator This message has the double purpose of thanking you, and announcing a July offer. So, first, let me thank you for helping us make our recent Y-37+mtDNA sale the most successful in the history of Family Tree DNA. While our lower Y-DNA37 prices combined with the free mtDNA test played an important role in this success, your efforts had a significant impact in this achievement, which made some projects increase their membership by a two-digit number. The many Group Administrators that used our BULK E-MAIL system saw how easy and good of a tool it can be to inform your group members of the sale. We encourage those who did not make use of this tool, to use it and see the difference that it can make. We expect that the kits will begin to be returned for processing this week and that results will start being delivered to your project by the end of July or early August. In light of this success and in conjunction with many reunions or events where one of us will be speaking, including the Clans Gathering 2009 and the Highland Games in Scotland, we have decided to offer for the month of July a variation of our recent promotion: Y-DNA37 - promotional price $119 (reg. price $149) Y-DNA67 - promotional price $199 (reg. price $238) mtDNAPlus - promotional price $119 (reg. price $149) These are the best prices, marker for marker, of any company in the market. IMPORTANT: since this promotion will run through the month of July, we encourage you to spread the word starting now, as the natural tendency is for people to order at the last minute, and we will not extend it beyond this month. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to the sustained growth of the Family Tree DNA matching database. You need a MALE with the last name of LEWIS (being born a LEWIS) to help determine your line. It does not make a difference what HIS sexual leanings are. Go back to your basic high school biology.
