    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bbffrrpp Surnames: Lewis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/12093/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. Just a quick note to mention an uncle who became estranged from the family ~1950. His new wife brought "her family" into the marriage who caused many problems. So, he left the State. We don't know where he first moved to, but we're found out he eventually made his way to Florida. According to a step-child in AZ, he had had a 30-year marriage in FL, possibly in the Ft. Myers area, but just a guess. That wife (unknown name) died in the 1980's, and afterwards he moved to Phoenix, AZ. He soon remarried, and they had a good relationship until both died within months of each other in the 1990's. His father in MA and CT was known by 2 nicknames: "Sy" and "Dean." And, it seems that he was also known by either "Sy" LEWIS or "Dean" LEWIS. He did have one child in MA before he left the area. It is not known whether he had additional children. There is the chance he had children while living in FL. I'd like to know if anyone knows about the life of my uncle. I last saw him when I was 4 or 5. And, as far as I know, he never made contact with any family in MA after he left, and for the rest of his life. Betty (near Lowell, MA) FYI: "Sy" or "Dean" LEWIS had an uncle, George "Sanford" KIDDER, Jr., who also became estranged from the family during his 20's. In 1958, he wrote to say he was living in Riverside, CA. I found out that he had a wife and step-children there. He died there in the 1960's. Cromer's are neighbors in both 1847 and 1850. Could Hiram Hamilton Lewis of Marion County, IN, be a brother? Related? 3. 12/12 markers is probably a good indicator for a relation at 1000+ years ago based on surname (different surname) alone. If you can match a cluster of a surname up at the 25/25 marker level, then you have something to work off of. Coincidentally, I have a dozen or so matches to the surname Elliott at 25/25 markers and have yet to find a match of Lewis ap Elliott or Elliott ap Lewis. I think that level of Y-DNA resolution puts me at 500 years or so to around 1450 AD plus or minus 150 years or so. I'm guessing the locale as Northern Ireland or Wales. > From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com > To: LEWIS@rootsweb.com > Date: Mon, 6 Jul 2009 15:09:23 +0000 > Subject: [LEWIS] Philip ap Lewis > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: hoydia > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/12087/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Of my twenty-two DNA matches at 12 markers there are six surname Lewis (and maybe 7 if Lacey is somehow a Lewis). Lewis is the most frequent surname of the twenty-two. These matches are so old as to be insignificant in my family history.
