My Robert was born in about 1798 in VA. Around the 1830's the entire group of Lewises moved down river about 50 miles to what is now Lake County, TN (formerly a part of Obion County. Meriweathers were close friends with some inter-marriage. They followed the Lewises to Ky and then to TN and lived nearby. Ring any bells? They also had 2 other daughters: Charlotte (b. 1852 Breconshire) and Elizabeth (b. c1856 Breconshire). In 1860 (after Charlotte's death) Charles remarried an Ann Price. In 1861 they had a daughter named Eliza?. I have found the 1851 Welsh census that has Charles and Charlotte and Annie Maria on it, and the 1861 Welsh census that has Charles and Ann, Annie Maria, Charlotte, Elizabeth and Eliza on it. Annie Maria is my direct ancestor and I know that in 1866 she immigrated to Australia. She married a Frederick Trochmann and after his death remarried a George Davis. However, I have no idea of what became of the rest of the family? Can anyone help? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: kevincmeade Surnames: Lewis, Kline Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.lewis/12118/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone know any information on a Decatur Lewis that was born about 1834 in Virginia and was living in Lincoln, Logan Co, IL in the 1870 and 1880 Federal Census (I also found a mention of him in the 1862 military census in Middletown, Logan Co, IL). He married Mary Ann Kline on February 9, 1862 in Lincoln Co, IL, and had at least 4 children. The 1880 Federal Census has his father being born in Wales and mother in Maryland, but I can't seem to back track him for sure in previous censuses to find his parents or possible siblings. I also can't seem to find him after the 1880 census, so he may have died after that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Tax lists in the Upper District 1785-1792 John then appears to be replaced by a Benjamin Lewis who appears in the Upper District in the 1787 tax records and disappears in 1799 most likely because he lived in that part of Russell that became Tazewell Co. There is a Benjamin Lewis listed in the petition to form Tazewell Co. VA it is possible that this is the Benjamin Lewis that married Rachel McGuire daughter of William McGuire of Tazewell. They usually have back issues of the newspaper and if he died in the area, there is possibly a write up even if he died without any family around. some libraries also keep a file on all Obits in the area. Worth a try if you have not done so.
